BTW, there are so many people so very, very involved with music in this town, I bet many of you would quickly become addicted to this site: http://rateyourmusic.com/ How long until someone takes the Pete Townshend head from the album cover (above) and makes it into a user icon? Or possibly Ken?

A little off-topic but check out the outfits on the cover of some of these Swedish bands' albums. My favorite is Garvis http://www.nyheter.nu/kultur/

Album covers were SO much more fun when they were 12x12. This one has a folk-art style illustration but was issued with a jacket of thick nubby paper stock. Beautiful. |

another thing about LP jackets -- I have the vinyl versions of these but what's listed above are the CD covers. On the vinyl Le Sacre du Printemps, there is no huge SONY logo in the top right. It was on Columbia and there was no logo at all on the front, just on the back. One the Copland, there was no huge medallion in the upper right, just a subtle drop-out Columbia logo in the upper right, descretely visible against the pale blue. The album title was plain black type centered at the top. Oh, and there was a lot of information on the back covers you could read in the store. Le Sacre had a very intelligent article by Boulez (is there any other kind?) along the lines of Quote:Unquestionably, the music of Western Europe already contained the seeds of Rhythmic preoccupation, especially at the outset; but in the quest for solutions in the areas of polyphony, melody and form, the role of rhythm had gradually been reduced to that of a necessary substratum, sometimes refined, based on a certain number of archetypes, or 'models'.
This was two aisles over from the latest Grand Funk Railroad, where the opposite was true. The Copland album offered a long interview with Copland about the piece, the original 13-instrument version of Appalachian Spring. Since you probably didn't know such a thing even existed, it was cool to be able to read about how it came to be. Just another little reason why CDs suck. |

I was fortunate to see her twice...and although it affected how often she performed live, it didnt affect her performance those nights. She has a remarkable body...of work. |

double LP covers were pretty much made for the task. I wouldn't be surprised if I found some still on the shelf. |

Nice posting of Captain Fantastic. You beat me to it! That album also had a cool centerfold as well and it's a great record.I played the grooves off that one. I even had a Captain Fantastic pinball machine too :-) |

Now if you want some of the best covers, you really can't beat Jim Flora covers. I actually got to meet him at a friends party several years ago, he drew a little something for me on a napkin, but I lost track of it over the years, dangit!

Gotta love those Zapppa and Mothers covers, man..... I guess Cal Schenkel did many of them. BTW, that ice cream dude is a reference to a punch line to a sick, sophomoric joke, as I guess everyone knows....
