There are so many unsung heros and generous giving people in our community. I'd like to start recognizing them publicly -- so here's my first post. Who will you add?

Nick C.at South Orange Storage Flexible Warehousing. Nick provided, at no cost, boxes and tape for the Reading=Success Book Drive. Nick provided, at no cost, two men and a truck to move the 53 very heavy boxes holding nearly 6000 books -- and stored them until we found a way to ship them. Nick worked the phone to find a colleague would would underwrite shipping costs. Nick arranged for very inexpensive shipping of all of the boxes to Slidell LA to benefit the students and residents of this town that lost so much.

Praise for Nick and his staff at SOS Flexible Warehousing -- Valley Street, South Orange.

Any one else have praise to share?

The Maplewood Library, for offering us a place to relax this afternoon without costing money and avoiding the stresses of being at home.

Doing puzzles, reading books and magazines, coloring...why do I not spend more time there?!

John, the owner of Freeman's Fish Market. I noticed an overcharge from his business on my credit card. It should have been about $15 but it was $114. His clerk made an honest mistake, and I wasn't even annoyed. He said he'd refund me the entire charge, not the difference. I said not necessary, but he insisted. I did have to nudge him, because he forgot to do the refund. He did it, and he dropped off a credit for his store. That was way more than he had to do.

"This is the only thing my signature says."

Pete at Parkwood Diner -- for such great food and delivery service! When things are missing from our order, (usually something small like the drinks) and we call to mention it, someone comes right back with them! They must be doing something right... we order just about every weekday and they are prompt with the delivery..(important, since as teachers we have a limited time frame in which to eat).

Great Job, Pete!
(and the baklava is awesome!)

Cheryel Galante and the folks running all of the events to benefit the NOLA area. They are like the little train that could, just chugging along doing amazing work.

All the BOE and TC members who give 100s of hours of their time each year as volunteers...only to reap mountains of criticism from ungrateful citizens who wouldn't volunteer if their lives depended on it.

And to all the other volunteers in town who don't fit that description.

Barbara thanks for starting this thread while some of the heroes don't ask for any kudos it's nice to hear them. It doesn't surprise me it about Nick a silent hero thanks Nick.

Barbara - For the thousands of books collected over the last several years for children in our community and, this year, for children and adults in Louisiana! READING = SUCCESS was a success because Barbara made it happen!

The volunteers from the Village Colonials who keep the little triangle park/garden at Garfield/Prospect/Tichenor in bloom all spring and summer. Beautiful.

Thanks!
