Tonight I got a call asking if my husband would be interested in advertising his business. Being that his business number is not listed I asked the woman how she got his number. She told me that she read it on MOL. When I told her that he has never advertised in 25 years she told me all the benefits of advertising but I told her that he was not interested. When I asked for her number she hung up.

I may be wrong, but didn't you provide his number once?

Yes I did Greeneyes when someone asked for a recomendation. The thing that has me concerned is that someone may be using information from here to try and get money from unsuspecting people.

I misread your post. I thought you were implying that the caller wasn't being truthful when she said she read his number on MOL. My apologies.

I am not sure what the issue is? You posted your husbands work number on a public message board and someone called it to solicit his advertising dollars. Is your husbands work number on the DNC list? If so, then the caller was indeed out of line, otherwise I don't know what the issue is? Admittedly, calls like that are annoying, but she hung up because she wasn't going to make a sale (IMHO). Did you try *69 to find out from where the call originated?

Speaking of odd, isn't it odd that someone would have an unlisted business number? Business must be very very good.

Duncan is correct. Once Millie's husband's business telephone number is posted on a public message board on the internet, it becomes a listed number (at least on that message board) and as such public information for anyone having access to that data.

If you don't want a telephone number to be listed in that manner, offer it up via PL to an interested party, rather than posting it directly to the message board.

You should have stayed on the phone long enough to figure out who it was. Pretend to be interested next time. Once you find out who they are, hang up. That'll show'em.
