Well, well, Meddy's been a busy bee, hasn't she? I deleted them all, but yesterday, on my first day on the boards, I received 7 (count 'em, 7) PLs from our "friend", who is spelling challenged. (and where the heck is yahoo.ca?) I didn't even know what a PL was. Calli |

I think Meddy is a boy's name. And yahoo.ca is in Canada. Anything.ca is Canada.

Hmmmm, you could be right, Medine may be one of those names like Evelyn. In either instance, he/she was a busy bee! And thanks for the information about .ca (I thought:California? Cancer? Con Artist?) Calli |

Calliope: A PL is a private line message. It's a way MOLers have of e-mailing each other without either the sending or receiving party revealing their true identity if either or both wish to remain anonymous. To send someone a PL you click on their name to the left of one of their posts (a link to their profile) and then follow the instructions. Dave and Jamie are pretty good about policing the site. This is the first time I have ever received pure spam in an MOL PL in all the years I have been posting here. Has anyone else heard from our prolific new e-mailer?

The following is a whole world of spam (or phishing) fighters I didn't know existed. All the power to them, but they must have too much time on their hands. " http://www.419eater.com has stories from people who have engaged the scammers in conversations and generally wasted their time chasing non-existent money transfers, plane arrivals etc. I was glad to see that the web site makers explicitly reject any racist motives – but I can’t help thinking that the photo gallery (with photos of scammers holding sometimes rude and disgusting signs) goes too far. Still, its interesting reading and an insight into the logic behind these scams. We’d not suggest you join the 419 baiting brigade but if you do, make sure you are very careful and heed all the warnings on the web site.“ Email Essentials listserv. |

Here's a good subject line I received today: "You're not ugly, you're fat". I think if "ugly" and "fat" were swapped, it wouldn't be any worse (or better).

I believe most spam is now sent by programs, not people hitting a "send" button, so it should be fairly evenly distributed, especially since it is global. Lots of spam comes from foreign countries. A lot of spam is even sent by hijacked computers, and the owners don't even know it. This sometimes explains why your computer is slow. It's busy sending out spam for other people's "benefit."

Every day, my mail provider sends me a message with a list of withheld messages that it thinks are spam. It shows me the sender's name, address, and the subject line. I can choose which messages I want them to send along to me. It works very well. Now that we have this thread, I look forward to reading that daily summary, so I can copy and paste the best names of spammers. Thanks, Mr. T.

usually I get about five or six from differnt addresses (and names) with the exact same subject and content. Obviously I'm on a few lists multiple times. And it always seems to be the ones with the unusualy names that send me identical emails. I like Peggy O. Seaweed, myself. Paramedic I. Mayhem is good, too. |
