She has a great voice..but she oversang...and they could have picked up the volume on Herbie's piano. I like the John Mayer song alot on that Herbie album. |

My favorite parts were seeing Sly and wishing I could hear more from him, and the New Orleans Musicians/"Midnight Hour" thing. And I give credit to all the artists who tried to be musical, even in that ridiculous format. I had really high hopes for the Gorillaz/Madonna opener, bec. I love "Feel Good Inc." and I even like that current Madonna disco song. Holograms are just a giant drag on awards shows, though. I'm through with holograms on awards shows. Madonna was good though. I need to join a gym. |

Frankly, I thought the whole thing was shite. Most of the music was mediocre at best. I stayed to watch the SLY number and I didn't care for it. Who *ARE* these people butchering his music? (Most of them are on Sly's new record "Different Strokes by Different Folks" produced by Sly hisseff.) Most of the musis was MOR, LCD crap. It's the "industry" jerkin' itself off. The really clever, interesting, smart and envelope-pushing music was nowhere to be seen. I love country music but the country performed last night was putrid. I am saddened by the "hip-hop-ization" of the music industry. Remember "The Emperors New Clothes?" Well, for the most part, these hip-hoppers have no musical clothes on. Gangsta my . But, its not PC to say so. The music BLOWS. And every performer and producer and label feels they have to promote hip-hop and hip-hop driven stuff. I DIG Wyclef, I dig where Ronald Islely has gone with it. and a few others, but, GIVE....ME...A....BREAK.

Could very well be, Me... I've listened to it a few times and what I gathered from it is this: YOU CAN'T IMPROVE ON THE ORIGINALS. |

I should add to my earlier rant that as a producer, R Kelley has done some interesting things. |

I was thrilled to hear that John Prine won an Emmy. I stopped watching these things awhile ago, lacking interest as I do in most of the most popular genres and "artists." |

I agree about John Prine, especially since it's been a long time between albums for him. As for the rest of the show, I admit that I went to sleep before the big finish, which was probably worth watching.
That's Sam Moore, the Edge, Springsteen and Elvis Costello. Anybody know where to find a video? |

Yes, Sheryl and Lance broke up, though they maintain deep love and respect for each other. Mary J. Blige blew the lid off of "One" (I didn't see the broadcast, but I clicked on the link above). Is the finale on that link? |

The woman in the black dress was named "Irma" something, and she was a soulful singer. I'd never heard of her. |

Rufus (Do the Funky Chicken) Thomas's daughter. The Sly record is misleading because (of course) Sly produced the original tracks but he did not have a hand in the remixes. I was at a rehearsal so I missed it. I would have loved to have seen Sly but I wasn't expecting anything too great. Unless they are considering giving a Grammy to Louis Taylor (best new soul mixed with Brian Wilson artist around) and a lifetime achievement award to NRBQ, I aint gonna take that show seriously. |
