Vegas puts the over under at 9 inches. What do you pick? I'm taking the over.

I think with noaa.gov as my government without hype guide, I'll take the under buzzsaw.

"Tonight: Periods of snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low near 24. Blustery, with a northeast wind between 17 and 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Tonight: Periods of snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low near 24. Blustery, with a northeast wind between 17 and 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Sunday: Periods of snow with widespread blowing snow, mainly before 11am. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 25. Blustery, with a north wind between 24 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

So thats 3 + 4 for the low end, and 7 + 8 for the high end. So that would make the total somewhere between 7 and 15 inches.

On a wonderful night like this the drinks go down very easily. I'm enjoying a nice Marker's Mark on the rocks.

VIT-
No need to be sorry. We think in the skeam of things and considering how the past few weeks went, it was kind of funny.

By the time this storm is over we're excepted to have a significant amount of snow (supposedly between 10-16 inches). I'd like to make a suggestion. Instead of the usual threads complaining about those who didn't clear their walk, please keep on eye out for your neighbors. If you notice no lights on in the house for an extended amount of time, and the walk isn't cleared call them on the phone and ask if they're OK.

Don't know their phone number? Go ring the bell! Especially if your neighbors are elderly or in poor health. Also believe it or not, there are people in our two towns who are struggling to make ends meet. Some might not have heat. If you suspect one of your neighbors might not have heat but you don't want to ask them into your home, let them know they can go to the Community Center where it is warm.

If you know a neighbor is ill or elderly and you have a snow blower, consider doing their walk as well. I would hate to read in the paper a few days from now someone in South Orange or Maplewood lost their life because nobody cared enough to check on them.

Please do not place any carpeting down over the snow in the street. It could damage our precious snow thrower!

We co-own a snow thrower with neighbors & I just looked out the window & saw him stopped, tinkering with the engine, mid-driveway.

I reallyreallyreallyreallyreally want to work from home tomorrow. And I did bring everything home with me.....

I am not privy to any inside info, but my guess is that there is a fair chance of a delayed opening tomorrow but I would be really surprised about a complete closing. The forecast is for clearing tonight and sunny and clear tomorrow. A delay might be needed to get walks and roads cleared, but I can't see a reason for a closing.

... but I've been wrong before.

However, I usually get a very early call due to my MMS webmaster duties and the same is true for Suzanne Ng (for South Mountain), so check either www.mmshsa.org or http://www.southmountain.somsd.k12.nj.us/ in the morning and if there is a delay or closing, you'll see an announcement at one or both of those sites - and probably somewhere here on MOL, although we aren't sure where given the current moratorium on the Education section.

Thanks for the mention, sac... I've got my phone chain posted right next to my computer, so I can make any necessary calls and post the info on the website, as early as possible.

The Union public access TV channel is indicating that their schools will be closed on MOnday.

Anybody know if the trains are running?

Any official totals for MW/SO yet? Or even Newark, which would probably be close enough?

I read that Newark was at 20" at 1 PM, but I am certain that I have a lot more than that on my property. Our property seems to get a lot of drifting in general though.

Trains are running, though it doesn't seem to be a full schedule. Buses, nope! According to nj1015.com several schools have already announced they will be closed tomorrow. None of the area schools though. My nephew's are hoping for a snow day so they can stay home and continue to play in the snow. My sister on the other hand (their mom) is not looking forward to a possible snow day just had serious surgery Friday on her shoulder so she wants peace and quiet.

At least I'll have a clean car! I bribed the kids to clean it off for me! Got off cheap this time too! Only $10 bucks. I think they're still out there building a snow person.

I just wish they would decide already so I could call people tonight instead of at 5 tomorrow morning if there's a delay. I'm hoping its not a closing since my son is excited about the 100th stuff going on...

According to 7online.com, Jersey City, Hoboken, and Roselle have already announced closings for Monday.

I went to 1010wins.com, to find a link to school closings, and could not find it. (there used to be one, right on the main page, but I could not find it!)

In the fairly recent past, the closings link on 1010WINS seemed to just take you to a place to register for closing notifications, rather than a list of closings. That always bugged me since they would be reading lists of closings at intervals on the radio, so why couldn't they just publish that same list they were reading? (I don't want to subscribe to the neighboring town closings, but sometimes I like to hear about them to guage what is going on in the area.)

However, I don't even see such a link there now at all.

I'm happy to say that I was wrong on all counts on the school issue. Well, all except the fact that 1010WINS.com doesn't simply publish the list of schools that are closed. I just don't get that! (They also don't seem to have the notification on SO/M yet.)
