I guess the message is that if you send something that appears to be in English, you will appear sophisticated.

This probably happens in America all the time with various Chinese & Japanese characters used as decorations rather than to impart meaning. I don't know for a fact that it does, but I wouldn't be surprised.

The brother of my boss recently got some beautiful Chinese characters tatooed on each arm. I asked him if he was certain what they meant--had he checked with a native speaker before getting them? He turned six shades of green.
