Okay, so I logged into my email account today, which I only use for MOL, to find new mail from "Wendy Nobglider". It is obviously spam, so no need to post it. What I find amusing and a coincidence is that: 1. I Private Messaged one of the many Wendys who post here within the past week. 2. I have in the past PMed Tom "Noglider" Reingold. Other than these two PMs (and one today), I have not used this email account for anything else. Has anyone else ever received any spam that appeared to be MOL relevant at first glance, but wasn't?

When Meandtheboys recently changed her name to WendyP (thread something like "How do I change my screenname" - please help?), there was a discussion of various Wendys & Tom briefly cnaged to Wendy Noglider I think...could be from Tom as Wendy... |

Very doubtful it could be connected unless Kevin posted his e-mail address in that thread. |

I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but was wondering if anyone else ever had something like that happen. It was just too odd not to post. It was definitely spam. The return address was from France. (.fr) |

Kevin- Can you post it for us? Were they trying to sell something? Maybe someone was playing a joke? As doul mentioned, at one point in fun Tom R did change his name and so did Wendy. Are you sure it wasn't one of them? |

Aunt, it is really spam....I get enough of it in my other account to be able to identify it. Nothing that originated from MOL. Wendy seemed to be trying to sell herself and her new website. |

I googled "nobglider" and got no hits. Google asked me if I really meant "slibglider"!

Dave, I love the circular reference. The word doesn't exist, but it will exist, because of our discussion of its non-existence.

"Slibglider" doesn't exist either. Google wonders if I meant "snibglider", which seems to be a band.

"noglider" on the other hand gets lots of hits, and they mostly seem to relate to someone we know. (don't worry Tom, I only checked one or two very quickly just to see if it was you ...) And there is a link that needs to be posted here from time to time (written by somebody named "Dave," but I don't think there is any relation): http://www.poopreport.com/BMnewswire/1111.html That's right, people, our own Tom Reingold holds a very important place in Internet history. |

That Poop Report Story about me is more embarrassing for my daughter than for me, for obvious reasons, and also because it's the first hit you get when you google her.

What I want to know is how google can take a word that doesn't exist, and then recommend another word that doesn't exist.

Hey, Google is named "Google." That alone is weird. Isn't that a 1 with a hundred zeros? I prefer Yahoo! Now that's a word! J.B. |

A one with a hundred zeros is a googol, but yeah, that's what inspired the google name. kevin, snibglider does exist. And by the way, I thought I coined the word noglider, but it does have an esoteric meaning.

Remember Mem's "framistram" that she was having a problem with? I don't think it was ever a word but now there is someone in Texas who used it last year - that must mean it's a word now: "...But there are STILL a lot of chauvinists out there who see a woman walk in the door and start talking bafflegab like Framistram Regulators and Muffler Bearings...." http://www.talkabouttrucks.com/group/alt.autos.toyota.trucks/messages/61862.html Who knew that bafflegab was a word?!? It means gobbledygook!

framistan is a word that is used to indicate any kind of fill-in-the-blank device. mem didn't invent it. And please don't mention it here, I still get flashbacks on occasion. (mem sold me a defective one that resulted in a very bad accident, the loss of my eyebrows & fingernails, lots of lawyers, etc. etc. However we agreed to be friends and I can even type the word now. That's a real breakthrough in my therapy.) |

Tom, I know that "snibglider" exists, re-read my post...."slibglider" doesn't exist and is what google recommends when you search on "nobglider". Actually, I just entered "nobglider" and it is not asking me about "slibglider" anymore and just going immediately to "snibglider" - but "slibglider" still takes you to "snibglider". Weird.

CLK: I'm actually talking about "framistram" and not "framistan". Then again, I think that there was also "framistam" somewhere in the archives - so I really don't know which is which and now I'm pretty confused. We probably shouldn't bring this up being that Mem is on vacation. |

Hah - no better time. The device she sold to me was a "framistan" (N at the end), but I wouldn't put it past her to be dabbling in other unsafe devices. |

There was a big article in a very recent issue of Time Magazine about Google. It included the genesis of the name from the Googol as Tom mentioned, and lots of other interesting material. It's probably on Time.com somewhere - maybe should google it to find out And, incidentally, I love how "google" has become a verb that is in pretty universal use these days. (Has it made the dictionary yet?) |

Tom, I re-read your post about slibglider and snibglider when we were talking about nobglider and google, and think that you were correct and I have no clue anymore. ....but I do recall having a brief email conversation with you a few years ago about a pack of razors. You also wondered if I was your neighbor. |
