Still snowing like crazy! Check the webcam on the MaplewoodOnline home page (not the discussion forum) for live pictures. I heard the thunder too ... that's really weird. I think I've only heard/seen thunder snow once before. |

My kids wore sandals that they found this weekend. They did have stockings on thankfully. I said "your feet might get wet in those sandals if it rains". "No mommy, our feet won't get wet!" So much for trying to be a flexible mom. |

It's really coming down in the city - huge white flakes. Is it supposed to stick? are they saying any accumulation?

From the looks of things here now, I'd say it won't last. The snow has slowed quite a bit and the flakes are much smaller and lighter. And the stuff that has stuck seems to be melting already. |

No snow at all in Hackensack that I've seen. They had the A/C on when I came to work and it was 60 degrees in my office. They seem to have turned the heat on now because it's about 69. I wouldn't have believed you guys - figured it's a late April fools joke - but I just checked weather.com for maplewood and it says snow & thunder. Ooops, just the very minute I started typing this - it started to snow!!! |

Well, friends, you may all be amused to learn that over the last 24 hours it snowed for the first time this year just an hour and a half to the east of my home!! That's the Falls Creek area, for anyone who knows our snowfields. It's bloody freezing tonight too, so I suspect there will be another snowfall for tomorrow morning. Have had to resort to our first log fire - ironic considering how hot it was two weeks ago (well over 100 degrees in your temperature scale). Official opening of the snow season is in mid-June! Oh, and anyone who knows people in Katherine, Northern Territory (I believe there is quite an American colony there, it's flooding. Brrrrr!! |

Nope, Duncan - closest I've come was a very short cruise to Fiji over 20 years ago. Yeah, I know - not very close, and not even American!!! My connection is through LibraryLady, a close friend who let me share her world by introducing me to MOL some time ago. As a community development worker and insatiable busy-body, I quickly found it addictive and so much better than a TV soap. MOL compensates for my lack of a social life due to long working hours, and a relatively small local community. I'm starting to think I really need to get a passport and save for a US trip, though - most of you feel like family now. some of you have even entered my dreams and I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing!! Oh, JTA, I've answered your e-mail. |

We're about 4 or 5 hours to the west of there, with the Snowy Mountains in the way, I think. I haven't actually been to Eden but have friends who go there for short holidays or weekends away. It may have been a lucky escape for you, Mem - I hear it's a lovely place but very rural/small village in lifestyle for those who live there all year round. |

Joanne, Eden is a beautiful place but there weren't many people and there was absolutely nothing to do except go to the beach or gamble at the pub. It's way too remote for me, I felt like I was on another planet. Yes, it was a lucky escape. Cheers! |

Oh Mem, you wouldn't recognise Eden now! Sea-change/tourist focussed; somewhat yuppie (do people still call them yuppies?); still with that sleepy approach to life but with bigger town politics sneaking in...Kind of like a retirement haven/fishing village amalgam. A bit like Bryon Bay in that respect, only I think Byron has the bigger population (all those getting-too-old-for-it surfers, and dropped-back-in-again-dropouts) More thread drift: I wish I wish a bit closer to you all just now - I desperately need a decent pedicure (cracked heels like the Grand Canyon) and all the local places are very heavily booked. I need a place near today's workplace where I can just pop in after my big meeting and fix it, cheap. *sigh* With my current schedule, I can't find a window to book an appointment until after Easter! Joanne, I was there in 1998. Has it changed that much? We spent three weeks driving down the coast from Sydney to Melbourne. I won $5000 at the Melbourne Cup, my 1st horse race, after he showed me how to study the racing form. I like Melbourne better than Sydney, it's like their NY as Sydney is to our LA. |

There's been a lot of sudden growth in many of the more prominent 'secret holiday' spots of New South Wales - my town has been known for the last 3 years as the fastest growing area of NSW, and most people know it as a great spot for retirement golf. There has been heavy promotion of the Sapphire Coast and improvments made to roads so it's easier to get there. I think you'd find it's changed. Lucky you, with the Cup!!! Maybe I should ask you to check this year's field for me, in November?? Agree with you about Melbourne - but hey, I was born there and didn't leave until I was 31...! |
