This from the cinematographer of all of my films... Panasonic HVX-200 JVC GY-HD100 Sony Z1-U Canon XL-H1 Many tests have basically said that they’re all comparable, and should be chosen based on features rather than quality. On that basis, I would immediately discard the Sony as it does not have a progressive mode. The Canon doesn’t either, though it’s fake progressive may not be as bad. For feature filmmaking, based on what I know, I would choose the Panasonic first, then the JVC. I particularly like the Panasonic for a number of reasons including its variable frame rate capabilities and color space. But I would do lots and lots of research first before deciding on a format and camera. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?f=54 http://www.dvinfo.net/ (‘P2’ refers to the Panasonic’s recording format, and HDV is what all the others record) http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxlh1/watchdog.php http://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_view_posts.cgi?forumid=162 http://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_view_posts.cgi?forumid=193
