This is a topic that I've been meaning to start for some time now but haven't had the chance. Your thoughts would be appreciated. I think she is at the absolute bottom of the barrel. The only one close is the infamous Artemis The Gap-Toothed Crooner. Thankey. |

I don't know, top three for sure though. Maybe the top would be Bruce Springsteen. |

Damn, I just looked back on the thread and realized how stupid that question was. Sorry about that. I think my top three would be Bruce and Air Supply followed by Gwen Stefani. (She hurts my head. What crap!) Although I want to say that Dave Matthews would be a close 4th. |

Mayor - you wound me. I love Dave Matthews!! And I am a Bruce fan, to boot! Three of my all-around worst artists have to be: * Celine Dion * Lionel Richie (solo) * Red Sovine (I will add to this when I am more awake.) |

I have to assume you mean someone who is/was a (big?) success despite their utter suckiness. Just sucking can't be enough. I mean, I'm a much suckier singer then Celine Dion and I can't wear flared collars like meatloaf, but I don't make my living as a singer. That said, I can't stand Toby Keith, ZZ Top, Kenny G... How about Leroy Neiman? I'm not sure if that's an interesting painting style or an interesting photoshop filter. (Also note that a funny mustache does not an artist make). Maybe I'm just not old enough, but why was Tiny Tim ever famous? Comedians: What about Carrot Top? Can someone explain Larry the Cable Guy? Oh, and someone tell Comedy Central that Carlos Mencia ain't Dave Chappell. He ain't even Gallagher.

When my cat was ready to make a hairball, he used to make a low moaning noise that sometimes would crescendo to a high pitch. It sounded remarkably like Celine Dion singing. For some reason, my husband likes her - I don't get it. |

I happen to like ZZ Top but I take no offense, Tom. De gustibus non didputandem est, after all. My TOP 12 (or Bottom 12, depending...) in no particular order Bruuuuuce! (I just don't get it - see Jackson Browne, below) Celine Dion (for attitude and arrogance as well as lack of talent) Madonna (an amazing talent! for self-promotion) Jackson Browne (glad this guy dissapeared - another rekkid and I'd a-killed myself) Trisha Yearwood <snore> Brittany Spears (surprise!) Sha Na Na (Ha ha ha) Yusuf Islam (before and certainly after) Mariah Carey (what is there to say? - she's been manufactured, in every way) Neil Young (blasphemy, yes- he seems an interesting guy, but the music is, for the most part, unlistenable) Nina Simone (more blasphemy, I suppose, she never seemed musical to me) Daryl Strawberry (Oops, wrong list...) and the singer I hate most of all..... ROD STEWART (Aaahhhh! What an as*hole! This guy makes me wanna puke!)

An intersting sideline here....William Shatner is a terrible, terrible singer, but, his CDs are wonderful. His most recent is called "Has Been," made with Ben Folds and it's priceline, er...priceless! His self-deprecating (sp?) sense of humor and the wit of the songs make it a gem. Joe Jackson is an uncredited guest vocalist, among others. I recommend it without (alot of) reservations. |

I can't stand Maria Carey!!!! She is a chubby diva with really bad hair and packaged like a wh*re. Her appearence alone bothers me so much that I can't begin to listen to her. Celine Dion is also nauseating on many, many levels. I must list Christina Aquilera as another that makes my skin crawl. (Thanks goodness somebody mentioned Bruce Springsteen...I feel like a outcast in NJ because his voice simply annoys me.) |

Kenny G...he can hold a note so long, it sounds like an anguished wail Michael Bolton...when he teamed with Kenny G, I thought, there are two performers who deserve one another. It is what I would imagine the soundtrack is playing in Hell. John Tesh...the guy couldnt even do weekend sports news well Yani...or however it is spelled..is New Age music actually music, or is it akin to doing weekend sports news on TV? Celtic Moon...taking four medicore songstresses does not create one really good unit. most doo-wop...the music is 50 years old -- if I sound that dated when Im 50, shoot me Mariah (rhymes with "Pariah") Carey...the only blemish in Derek Jeter's career. Celine Dion deserves mention because she even "writes" mediocre books...and because she thinks she is "Mother of the Year" (does she publicly thank her childcare staff at all?) |

ess good point about the black eyed peas. They are bad, really really bad. But, they are still not half as bad as bruce. But I actually think that Gwen Stefani may be the worst out there right now. She would be behind bruce, but I can't get over the fact that she thinks she is so cool. Her music makes me want to take a butter knife and cut my ears off. (And Dave matthews??? it hurts ess...)

No. I guess I should. That one from 10 or 20 years ago with him singing Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds didn't seem self-depracating, but maybe he's matured. He positively awful in Boston Legal. In fact, he looks ill.

OK, I dare you to listen to Britney Spears - Toxic three times in a row and not be singing along by the fourth listen. I'm not saying the woman is a talented artist but she sure knows how to deliver a pop gem. For this one song alone I would not lump her into the worst artist alive category. |
