We've reached the point in my two-year-old's life where he can finally tell me, clearly, in words I can actually understand, that he loves me.

It makes me so happy my head could explode!

Very sweet -- I can imagine you must be very happy to hear such heartfelt words from your son.

I was coming up the train station steps the other day and a man was there with his young son, who had apparently spent the day with him and the boy just said (without being prompted in any way) "Daddy, I had a really great day with you today!" My heart just melted.....

The thing I love most about hearing that from my kids, and about the many compliments they give me when they like something new I'm wearing, or when I actually go to the trouble to put on makeup, is that they are real and true and have absolutely no ulterior motive behind them!

Can't say that about much else in life.

Too cute!

For some reason my 2 year old doesn't just say "I wub woo", she says "I wub woo tooooo".

As to no ulterior motive...my kids already say "I love you" when they want something from me. Usually works too.

Not there yet, Wendy, although I fully expect it will happen some day.

Could it be a girl/boy thing?

I saw a teenage stocking clerk at Kings give one of the middle-aged cashiers a sweet sincere hug just because "she needed it".
I got all misty-eyed and thought that he probably learned that behavior and compassion from some great parent somewhere and even as a young adult he can dip into those sweet memories!

For every ounce of effort we put in to raising loving children, we (and the world) will get much, much more in return
