Dave,

With all due respect, can we move MOL away from this godawful software and over to something else? A lot of boards use vbulletin and it seems relatively nice.

In particular, the search function works.

There is a lot of great data in the MOL archives. I know the problem with switching is migrating that data over. My suggestion: forget about data migration. The search function on MOL is such garbage, the data is barely accessible anyway. I usually search by going back through the attic, manually searching each thread. I'd say the MOL search works maybe 10-20% of the time for me. It's pretty clear the software can't handle the size of the archives.

This is not, not a complaint about you, Jaime, or this great resource you have provided. For a mobile community like Maplewood, it is a real godsend.

But the software sucks the big one.

If people want to keep the archived data, perhaps that could be kept as a discontinued BB for searching only (hah!).

I hear you on the search issue. I have experience with vBulletin and I would still use this software over it. What you have to realize is that there's a lot going on behind the scenes with software and vBulletin simply doesn't have the capabilities that make maintenance pain-free. Unfortunately, that aspect (and the very well designed user interface) trumps the search issue. We hold out hope that the next update of the software will work out some of the search issues.

Fair enough.

Again, thanks for providing this great resource.

And sorry for misspelling Jamie.

And Dave, while we're not on the subject, has anybody contacted you lately about becoming involved in an "alternative" publication? Online or hard copy? Politically-driven or otherwise? No? Well, WHY NOT?

Well in advance of any budding editorial conspiracy taking shape, I'm hereby registering my preference: that any such locally-fueled ether-rag should be located within, upon, and through -- yet editorially distinct from, your kickin' little Virtual Community. It'd be a win-win, Dave, and it could maybe even justify that annual MOL registration fee you've been planning to spring on everybody next year.

BTW: Don't forget that if you play your cards, right, you may even purchase the rights to THIS:

Too late, Dave. It's been acquired.
