I understand, sort of, why I am constantly reading and posting on S/MOL. But who here is not from out fair two towns and still, reads and posts here? And why whould you ever bother to do so? I really ant to know. Is there a similar website in your community and do you utilize it? Maybe we could do some market research for the Brothers Ross and find them new ground to open up in.

I would imagine that once you get by the town-specific stuff a lot
of the threads are pretty universal. Fix-it, politics, the reading
thread and such.

And I know from friends and co-workers that most community bulletin boards
don't hold a candle to this one.

Well, you know that I am a fair way from your neighbourhood but you all seem like nice people and I love eavesdropping on your conversations...seriously, since Nancy introudced me (thank you, again!) I am fascianted by the commonality of topics between my town of concern here and over there in M-SO. Even the town-specific stuff - change street/business names and the stuff is about the same kinds of issues and personalites.

You've also helped with answers to questions posed by friends on other messageboards I belong to - again, thank you.

And you represent the social life I don't have. *sigh* what's that phrase I'm searching for...? ah! I think I have it! mead???

Born and raised there. Still live in Essex County so, why not share in the info and usually friendly banter.

Work in town, live in a neighboring town... (whose message board is nowhere as active as this one)

Moved from Maplewood to Florida. I guess I post and read out of habit and also to mention how nice the weather is during the winter months.

I got an email from a political activist in Philly. He says MOL is required reading to get a pulse on the country! He implied everyone knows this, though he is clearly exaggerating.

I suspect that if MOL is ahead of the curve for community messageboards, one reason that makes it more worthy of one's time is that MOLers are, I believe, more literate and expressive than the average citizen. Just look, for example, at how good our spelling, punctuation and grammar are. This is a sign of our literacy and expressiveness. It is well above the average for online forums (fora?).

Bill, I didn't mean to inply that you had to be "qualified" to read MOL. It's just strange and wonderful that so many folks who no longer live here, or never lived here, are still actively involved. I really think that this message board is totally unique and that nowhere else in this country is there one like it.

NLL-Sorry if I sounded sarcastic. I guess I was trying to be humorous. No offense taken. I enjoy this board like everyone else. Have a nice day.

There are over a half-million posts here on MOL. Heaven help us if they're all from us residents!

Like Suzanne, I live in West Orange. Our board just hasn't taken off. I really wish it was linked to MOL or even limited to one thread or folder like SO and M/SH. Dave/ Jamie - why don't you?

We used to live in Maplewood, and many of the issues discussed affect us even in WO. Also, the handyman recs and so on are just as valid.

I moved from Maplewood a long long time ago. I come for MOL history site. I am and have been in contact with old (Class of 64) High School classmates and send information from
history link. While here I check out other links if I have the time (like this one). Alot of useful junk, like post random picture, I send to friends. Post very seldom because I'm a visitor to your site so I don't post on Maplewood or South Orange subjects. I come back to NJ occasionaly and show town I lived in to who I'm with. Last visit I went to my old neighbors house and visited him and wife. A stroll down memiory lane you might say. One issue you had I followed with intreast. I would have stayed at least one time at Art's with family, if he would have been allowed to have his B&B.But stayed at Holiday Inn by Airport instead.

Tom, it wasn't Atrios was it? That would totally rock ... though if your friend is a Philly activist, he almost certainly knows Atrios if he isn't actually him.

I have this feeling that this thread is a trap. Dave is watching waiting for all out of towners to post so he can get rid of them from this board. It is the first step in his plan of world domination.

If Dave wants to dominate the world, why would he get rid of the out-of-towners? Seems to me he should be recruting them.
