Train coming home [from Hoboken]was much more crowded than usual but it left and arrived on time. This is an excellent alternative for those looking for a way to get home if the power isn't fixed by then. Another reasonable option is the 107 bus from Port Authority. |

Joan, where does this bus stop in Maplewood? My mom is helping out with babycat today, but she needs to get back to the city tonight so she can go to her paying job tomorrow. I'd hate for her to be stranded here -- the guilt! |

I know there's one stop on the 107 bus near the corner of Boyden and Irvington Ave. The NJ Transit site should have the bus schedule which will list each stop. It goes through South Orange too. |

Amandacat: The 107 bus stop I know of is at the South Orange Train Station. Another option is for her to take the train to Hoboken (that train is still running) and then take the PATH to 33rd Street or to whichever PATH Station is closest to either her destination or the nearest subway to where she is going. Word on the Evening News is that normal service is expected to resume at 8 PM tonight. |

ust got home and yeah I left early after my experiences at Hoboken the last time this happened. There are a bunch of NJ Transit office types trying to direct people to trains. Trains are being combined and it seems like the departure times and destinations are being changed every few minutes. When rush hour starts expect chaos. I caught a Dover train at 4:14, changed twice from earlier departures and got to MW in about 35 minutes. The train made all local stops. At least this time the conductor didn't try to charge me the upcharge for MTD service that happened the last time MTD ran out of Hoboken. :-) Add Your Message Here cross posted |

I hate to admit this, but I had one of the best commutes home in a long time. Left work a few minutes before 5 expecting the worst. I got to the PATh just as the Hoboken train arrived, and at Hoboken was delighted to see Bobby, the conductor on the 5:20 that usually leaves from Penn Station. It left Hoboken at 5:20 (and had plenty of empty seats), and was home in 1/2 an hour. Almost makes up for this morning's fiasco. |

I left NY a little before 8. All of the trains were running (NE corridor, coastline, etc) but the morris and essex and montclair were still cancelled. There were transit folks at the turnstile at the 33rd st PATH that would let you on the pATh without paying the fare if you showed them (or just mentioned, as I did) your NY ticket. Got home a little later than I would have liked, but it was all really OK in the end. I was a little annoyed on the trip into the city (12:48 train) that they announced that the train would be diverted to Hoboken- after we were already in motion, and then still came around to collect our NY Penn tickets. I think if you aren't going as far as you bought the ticket for they shouldn't collect it- or refund the difference. I have had conductors hand back my ticket when the AC was not working or other problems. Maybe I've just been lucky in the past. All in all it worked out OK. |
