My hubby, Longhead Self, had the pleasure of meeting Tom Reingold while doing work for him at his place. He said it was funny because he'd read Tom's blog, and already felt he knew so much about him. I still haven't met anyone...sniff.

Joanne: You could always come visit us in SO/M.

Saw Jamie this morning in the village seeking signatures on his nominating petition. He still needs about 100 signatures (he's half way there) and has about two days to get them (deadline is this coming Tuesday). If you want to see Jamie's name on the ballot in November, you are a registered voter in Maplewood and you haven't signed petitions for two of the five candidates who are already running, track him down between now and Monday and sign his petition. I believe he said something about being at Net Nomads for at least part of this afternoon. I've also heard there is a copy of his petition at HTTA.

Joan, I dream of just simply turning up one night at Bunny's or somewhere that's been marked for a F2F, and saying 'here I am!!' Of course, for that, I'd need to get a passport and then save for air tickets - getting to the nearest international airport will cost us nearly Australia $1000, so you can see the trip itself will cost a bit. This is a factor because I've spent 25 years in under or no employment and have no savings or assets to speak of (we don't even own a house) and am only 10 or 15 productive years away from retirement. So overseas travel is a bit of a pipedream in my life...at this stage anyway. Thank the gods for the Internet!! And the Brothers Ross for MOL!! (Jamie for President?!)

Hey anyone wondering how cold it is over here just now: Rutherglen is 10 mins to the west of here, nearest weather station: Rutherglen, 07:30 EST -3.9°C
(HOWLONG, NSW 146.6°E 36.0°S 140m). Yep, Minnie has taken over the king-size bed and is hogging all the bedding she can hook her claws into!

Joanne,
I think we would be able to find you some inexpensive (free) accomodations!
Be sure you plan on arriving in our summer and your winter! Who knows---you might even attain "guest alien" status!

Joanne:

Jamie has decided to run for Township Committee here in Maplewood. It should be a fascinating local election with the four democratic candidates (at least two of whom remain active MOL posters) squaring off this coming Tuesday and the two survivors going up against the lone Republican candidate plus Jamie if he can just get enough signatures by Tuesday.

There was quite a face to face in the Village this morning as quite a few MOLers stopped by the umbrella under which Jamie was standing to wish him well in the election and discuss strategy (or lack thereof).

I knew Jamie had decided to run (we use both 'stand' and 'run' when you're in the competition for elected position; isn't English funny??), which is why I suggested (somewhat tongue in cheek) Jamie for President. El Presidente Jamie has a nice ring to it, don't you think?? A bit like Life Emperor Dave...

And I kinda like the notion of being a 'guest alien' except that as an official MOLer I'm not really alien/other. Anyway, hubby is now plotting some kind of one-person away-for-a-couple-of-weeks thing for next year, I think...!

Of course, I do live within easy tasting distance of 6 small wineries of fknown gourmet status, at least two gourmet olive grove/bottlers, cheese producers and some spectacular scenery. Next weekend is a 3-day weekend - the Winery Walkabout Weekend; who's coming? http://www.rutherglenvic.com/events/majorevent_more2.asp?majorEventID=3

(Note the cancelled open house is due to a sweet older lady (about 89 years) being robbed and her house ransacked last week. Shocking stuff. She's the grand-daughter of the original winemaker.)

I'm sure 'twas you... however, I hesitate to invade space unless invited to do so with a knowing nod or wink even, unless it's at Bunny's or Art's of course.

I did wave hello to the Soulful. But apparently he was watching the TV at C'entanni's as opposed to looking towards the people near the TV. I will not take this personally however. I was with my husband who shares some names with Soulful. (First/middle switch Soulful, remember?)

My wife and I were at the annual mayor's ball in Maplewood on Thursday, and of course we met many MOLers there. And of course, we met MOLers without our knowing they are MOLers.

red, you look darling in your new picture.

Yes it was me. Did I nearly run you over? I'm usually quite respectful and law-abiding when it comes to non-Monster pedestrians. Really, and truly, I'm sorry. Don't even know if you're telling the truth. The RSX is my husband's splurge, mid-life and all that. I, of course, poo-pooed getting such a nice sporty car. Yet look who drives it every chance she gets.

Red, we were there on Friday at about 7:30. Just stayed for one drink and then went to Trat for dinner.

[edited to add that I realize Monster said he was in his car - hmmmm, don't think I nearly ran any Monsters off the road this weekend. Nope. Didn't happen.]

Wendy, we just got a new "sports car" too! And like you, I never comprehended the whole "mid-life crisis car" thing. Now that I've been behind the wheel of our zippy new little 5-speed with the Bose stereo 5-CD changer and the sunroof, I completely get it!

The first weekend we had it I ran an errand to CVS in Millburn via South Orange Avenue and the Reservation!

Today, Sheandtheboys was late to pick up Oneofherboys after his piano lesson, so he and I took a walk with my dog. We had a nice conversation.

Hey, Youandtheboys, sorry our house is such a mess today. We are running ragged getting my daughter's bat mitzvah together. It's this weekend.

Wow, Tom. I bet child #1 enjoyed walking with you and Red. How nice. Thanks so much for looking after him while I battled all manner of traffic the couple miles between Union and Maplewood (and you know being late is not a habit for me, right?).

Good luck with the Bat Mitzvah. Didn't really notice the mess, as I was too busy being dragged out the door, running from point A to point B to point C to point D to point E, and so on and so on and so on.
