campbell29: For that grilled corn on the cob, do you wet the corn or anything before you put in on the charcoal? Do you put that lime butter and cilantro on while it's grilling, (inside the husk) or after?

homemade spaghetti & meatballs with salad & a baguette...super simple, only a few ingredients & a family favorite sauce: Cento brand crushed tomatoes, water (in equal proportion to tomatoes), flat parsley, onion, salt, olive oil for saute of parsley/onion, salt. Cook at least an hour, but longer is better whole wheat spaghetti meatballs: ground turkey, some of above cooked parsley/onion, egg, dash milk, Ital. breadcrumbs, parm cheese, salt/pepper (broil & then add to sauce) maybe mango lassis for dessert!

I slightly dampen the corn before it goes on the grill (still in husks). After husks darken and are slightly singed, off they come. I turn corn every few mintues. I melt butter, lime juice and cilantro in microwave and then spoon onto corn. |

Soparents, We just had them for dessert - no pulp - just frozen hunks & they came out fine...yogurt(whole fat greek yogurt b/c that what I had), frozen mango chunks, some milk & a bit of sugar - blended on chop then went along the blender settings to get them smoother - very yummy! Used a combo of my own frozen mango (they were going to go bad so I cubed/froze) & the Whole Foods brand from freezer section. That said, I have found that Whole Foods will sometimes order items if you ask! Also, it's an item that is lots of hispanic foods - maybe just a bodega in the city? Also, the indian markets in Jersey City or Edison would probably have it. |

Cooking? Not knowing the meaning of said word I just looked it up in my new Roget's International Thesaurus 6th Edition: Baking, toasting, roasting, oven-roasting, frying, deep-frying, pan-frying, stir-frying, searing, blackening, simmering, steaming, stewing, basting, braising, poaching, shirring, barbecuing, steeping, brewing grilling, broiling, pan-broiling, charbroiling, microwaving, prssure-cooking, canning, pickling, preserving. Nope. Have no idea what it means.

Thanks, campbell29. We did dampen the corn we grilled before placing in the coals. It was absolutely delicious. We'll add the cilantro-lime butter next time. How much better than steamed corn!!! |

I had something like it at a party this weekend. I usually make a grilled red potato salad and added carrots, celery, sweet fresh corn and purple cauliflower and fresh cilantro. You can cheat this recipe by buying a premade decent potato salad and adding the extra ingredients and maybe some ranch dressing. Hmmm, maybe even some advocado or mango or pineapple. Anyway, people seem to comment on the 'crunchyness'. |

that would be a vegan, correct? My potato salad has lotso hard boiled eggs, so mayo is not the "mayne" concern. |

cross-posted to JML. Your post made me think of potato salad made with guacamole, then I said to myself, Self: get rid of the taters, and there went the potato salad and I was left with delicious guacamole. Then I woke up because I don't know how to make guac, but I do know how to make Mom's pot. salad! I use celery, onion, hard boiled eggs, and a mustard/mayo dressing. Non-vegan but entirely vegetarian, I believe. Well, that's what I'm telling everyone. |

Just picked some strawberries from my garden that are bigger than golf balls, smaller than tennis balls, maybe about the size of monster balls. Mem, they would make a delightful strawberry daquiri. |

Calliope, you just reminded me, I need to go harvest some strawberries from my garden. They look like they are on steroids and juicy delicious. I have a bumper crop this year , Laura! About to put the rest of last night's pick on my Cheerios. The rain and ionized atmosphere should make the ripening ones even more succulent! (as long as I can get to them before the birds and bunnies do) Enjoy! Calli |

I'm jealous - I can't grow any fruit or veg in my garden. I tried loads last year, and they all began to spring up nicely, the kids were having a great time watering etc, and then the wildlife got a sniff and that was that. It didn't matter where they were, top deck, lower deck, the animals had a feast. They ate every last thing... |
