Received some clothes, bathing suits & shoes I ordered yesterday. Before jumping in the shower this morning (and before I ate any more Chips Ahoy), I decided I'd try them on and get it over with. Dangerous, I know!

Turns out they both fit and I really like the way they look! Both are tankini's which NEVER work for me, and one has a halter top, which also is rarely ever flattering for me!

What a great start to a day that was otherwise looking potentially bleak after only 5 hours of sleep (again)!

(Of course we won't talk about what size I had to order to achieve this result. It's too disgusting to consider!)

Five hours? I am envious....

Sounds like a great start to the day, indeed.

From where did you order, may I ask?

That is great news! I hate shopping so prefer to order online.....my problem is finding petite size fashionable (not too trendy) clothes that are not too expensive. Nothing wrong with Chadwicks or Newport News, you just have to look at everything, like going to a discount store, you never know you might find something great at a great price.

Have any of you girls been up to the Forth & Towne? It's the Gap's store focused on "older" women (35 and up). I wish they would open one here in NJ and have online shopping, but not yet.

I can totally see you looking good in a tankini, Me. Wise choice.
(and congratulations on liking the way you look in something - trés impressive!)

Last year I got a tankini. I didn't mind the look, but the fit wasn't great. I was really mostly bummed because I used to always wear bikinis. Now, however, after I had my 2nd, my belly button is an outie! It's like a water baloon. Really gross. Wont stay back in. I guess the two walls of mussles never fully repaired after him. Sometimes I think, If I just loose 10 pounds, maybe it'll go back in. Or, maybe I should just embrace the look...

Are the pools open yet?

Shananabana:

Sounds like an umbilical hernia.

If it bothers you enough, you can get it repaired. I think this is a same-day surgery.

Anyway, FYI, you might lose 10 pounds, but if the pounds were loose, perhaps they would fall off on their own.

You're so full of it "Dawg!" I haven't walked by your house in at least a week. Thanks though!

Thanks all. Thanks las. Don't think it's the style so much as the size, though. Finally decided to order a size that might fit, regardless of how "huge" it seems in my mind!

MeAnd, you are up realllllly early! Or late.

Sometimes it seems like i'm the only one who doesn't go for manicures and pedicures. It seems like I should just be able to do this by myself. Are they worth it? Do they last past a few days?

Shanabana, I think they are worth it. I am willing to do a lot for a few moments of relaxation.

Pedicures tend to last longer than manicures, at least for me. But I still think manicures are worth it.

And I have to opposite view (although I'm still confused how we got from bathing suits and umbilical hernias to mani/pedi.

I don't think manicures are worth it because, for me, they really don't last. Then I find I like the "manicured" look so much that I start spending more money on tips and patches and what have you, and my $20 "bargain" manicure becomes a $35-$40 (with tip) manicure.

Pedicures, on the other hand are a half hour of basic bliss, some time to myself, and as close as I get to any kind of spa treatment on any regular basis. Plus, it's the only way I can stand to bare my ugly toes during bathing suit/sandal season!

I don't think manicures are worth it. I can do my own nails in 10 minutes and I can buy the same Essie and OPI colors they'll use in the salons. Manicures chip on me less than 2 days.
Pedicures, OTOH, are very worth it. They can last me a month. so I usually get at least one in the winter and 3 over the summer. I can't stand getting pedicures (very very setisitve feet) but since I only do it 4-6 times a year, I suck it up.

Another abrupt change in topic that has me completely confused.

It's a conspiracy, isn't it? Or does Leo Nails now offer valium with your mani/pedi?

I need to go to bed.

I find that if I ever get a dark color, the manicure is chipped by the end of that day. I also find that when I do it myself, it looks as though I did it myself. Chips or no chips, I just enjoy it.

As far as Leo Nails offering valium - that's news to me, but if they did, I see no reason ever to leave the salon.

I don't. But mine aren't too bad. I just try to keep them lotioned up after I shower. Try the cracked heel cream type products, they help a lot.

My last few manicures have lasted almost a week! I think it's because of the color, Essie Tennis Corset. It's a sheer white with a subtle sparkle that must make it adhere to the fingers better. I do it often enough on my own, but when my fingers need extra TLC or I have a big to-do, I have someone else do it.

(Now my fingers are all ripped up becuase I painted the bathroom.)

Pedicures I need. The polish seems to last ok, but I can't deal with long toenails so I have to go every few weeks to a month. I've even taken to scrubbing around my toes with a toothbrush in the shower, but because of the way they grow I really like when someone works at it.

I know, TMI.

Coincidentally - I swear - I used Essie Tennis Corset at last week's manicure. Purely coincidental, no hidden meanings, really. Really.

Anyway, you may be right about the sparkle. It seems that the slightly sparkly colors do last longer.

I also like Vanity Fairest, it has a little sparkle too. I'll try tennis corset next time.
wendyn - I use cream after the shower religiously. I am just hard on my feet, 'specially in the summer

Love getting pedicures......I love the manicures as well, but it only lasts one day, it isn't worth it.

A couple of weeks ago I went with my daughter to go and get manicures and pedicures together. It was so fun, and she was just a doll. She loved it. Boy am I in trouble.

Ok, back to the bathingsuit topic, I have another question.

I'm thinking of getting a two piece (yes, a tankini, cause of the belly button thing) with one of those little skirts attached. But I can't decide if they're just too un cool. I mean, the skirts still remind me of what my grandma used to wear in the 1970's , and it looked so old fashioned then. In my mind, these newish suits with skirts are flattering. But, do peopole really wear them? I mean, God forbid I'm the only mom at the South Orange kiddie pool in a tankini with a little skirt attached.

I ONLY wear them. I hate one piece suits because my torso is really long, but on more than one occasion my kids would pull on my bikini bottom, so I started wearing board shorts. Cute but a little bulky. Then I found the skirts, and love walking around comfortable and never needing a cover up. I do better with shorter tops as opposed to the full tankini, but I think the skirts are cute. Even my size 0 sister-in-law, age 25 wears them. FWIW, I don't think anyone would call me matronly. There are just some things I prefer not to show the town, and some things I don't care to see on others too!

There are several that look nice not matronly. Try a few on, see which ones you like.

So VIG, my little one just asked me if we could go get a mani/pedi then go to the pub after.....

I don't get pedicures. I'm too ticklish. Only problem is this year all the cute shoes seem to have open toes and here I am with feet that should NOT be seen in public. Also, does anyone know anyplace in Jersey that will do a full brazilian? Every place I've called gets snooty, "we don't do THAT here."
