Joanne G, you can insert an emoticon and then cut and paste the text that inserts the emoticon where it belongs in your text. In fact, if you remember the spelling and punctuation of the directive, you can type it yourself, rather than pointing and clicking.

Now you're getting a bit tricky for my poor addled brain, Tom!!! I think I've tried something similar but it didn't work, jumping instead back to the end of typing point instead of where I realised long afterwards I'd rather have inserted it. Will try to play around with it when I am more awake and not intent on applying for major project funding in the not-too-distant future (like in a few hours!). Perhaps tomorrow evening (my time). Thanks for the good tip though - I look forward to trying it! Meantime, am off to bed - it's after 1 a.m. here and I gotta bounce outta bed before 6 to finish a newsletter, that grant application and project outline and go set up an exercise class room before going in to work...

...zzzzz...zzzz

Dave:

I really like the new bar codes. Now the hard core among us will be able to tell at a glance where the action is on the board.

I'm no statistician, but that's not a graph. Scatterplot?

More like a map. Each node represents a different HTML element, with lines showing their relationship. The web site is "Websites as graphs" and I just used their terminology.

A graph can be just a depiction of something, including a set of numbers. Yes, tom's thing is a graph. It doesn't have to be a bargraph.

Florally graph seems to say something about (and in) fractals, but I can't work out what - will have to get my friend Bern to join MOL and she translate it all for me!!!!

I love the turn this thread has taken - and again, Dave, I just love this new feature!

Dave, those graphs show huge percentages for one section or another when the board is lightly used. Can you put it in perspective by displaying how many page views in the last one, five, and fifteen minutes? Or maybe a line graph of page views over time!

Question. How can you have 1% of 91 people?
Wouldn't there have to be at least a 100 people on to do that?

* Mayor no longer barkeeps at a well-known local restaurant. I did not see him *every* Tues. and Fri. night, but it was always comforting to know he was there even if I wasn't.

The network diagram above reminded me of a presentation I recently saw, that I will try and paste below. It is a diagram of a sexual network of high school students in a Midwestern community. The larger grouping is quite an efficient network for STD transmission. I suspect this message board isn't quite as efficient.
