O.k. fine, no one is answering questions, I will start. I read a complaint that said that we were unhelpful and couldn't take in the cats she had. I am sorry, but if we cannot take cats in, it is because we are full of cats. We can only house up to 40 cats. Since it now kitten season we need to keep room open for expecting mother cats and her kittens. The only way to bring an animal in is if Animal control brings it in or you surrender it with a fee. There is a fee in place because we need money. We are not funded by the state, and we need the money to keep the animals healthy and happy. And another thing. We don’t take puppies from New Orleans. We take them in from Georgia and Virginia because they gas them by the hundreds down there. Puppies are pretty easy to house, and they go faster than an adult does. I know. We have a few adults that have been there for over 6 months. Rest assured that they will NEVER be put down. We give them every chance they have to get adopted.

This whole thread seems contrived and concocted to do something. And I'll be darned if I know what that is.I have over 6K posts out here and can't remember reading any about the JAC except concerning its construction. Not since it has begun functioning have I read anything negative. On the contrary I have read positive things.

And to be fair Bajou, Coweta County is in Georgia so there isn't much the average person in NJ can do about the plight of most of the animals down there. And those already against euthanasia (sp?) will still be against it and those that are not will think, I am afraid, that the links you provided are exploitive and useless to people here in M/SO.

So, its a mystery to me.

P.S. all my pets have been shelter pets, upto and including my current 13 year old cat

There were a couple of threads last year about the JAC and some gripes some people had with them. I don't understand why 'shelter kitty' is trying to start people bashing the JAC again. Maybe we should remember

Dear Duncan:

The JAC is doing something about the situation in Georgia.

The JAC (and several other shelters in the Northeast) has made an alliance with an animal hospital in Georgia. Volunteers from Georgia drive the rescued dogs (mostly puppies) up here on their free time. These volunteers take Friday off from their job (they are mostly vet techs) and drive all day. I have spent many a Friday night (as I will this coming Friday) to help unload these dogs which sometimes (depending on Traffic and Weather) can be as late as 3AM. All the shelters in the South are completely overwhelmed due to Katrina Animals that had to be distributed. The JAC has rescued close to 300 puppies in the past 1 1/2 years. If you go to the JAC webpage you can already see pictures of the dogs that we are expecting this Friday. These are highly adoptable dogs as they are mostly hound and small breed mixes. Most puppies are adopted within 24 hours. Just to clarify. The dogs are taken from the high kill shelters and kept at the Veterinary clinic for 10 days where the ones that are old enough get fixed and the babies get vetted. All dogs come with a complete medical evalutation/shot record and a letter from the hospital. I myslef adopted the mother of a litter of pups 2 months ago and I know three of her offspring have found the most wonderful homes with friends of mine.

The tread was in reference to postings I and Combustion made on a different thread. "How can these people live with themsleves" I think shelter kitty was upset about these posts but didn't want to "drift" to much on the other thread so she started a new one.

Hey JUST: For once no crazy trollers here. Just a disconnected thread.

To view the puppies that are coming in:

Just ignore us crazy animal people...

To shelter kitty:

Nobody is bashing the shelter. Somebody was unhappy about a very unfortunate situation.

Thank you. I happen to know that person. I know for a fact they went through hell dealing with certain people (or person)there, I know for a fact they were hurt about losing the animal and I know for a fact that during the ordeal they learned things that left a bad taste in the mouth about the Shelter and Vet. Speaking on it is NOT bashing, they have every right to express themselves and share their experience.

I wasn't saying you were a troll. I was saying shelter kitty might be. Now that we know where the thread came from. I looked at the first link you posted and am now crying. I wish we could take another cat in. But with one of the nephews with asthma we ca't.

Pardon me, but I wasn’t trying to bash the JAC. I am devoted to all those who are there, and I recently read something that had a lot of negative things about us. I just figured that there were a lot of people that had questions about us that would need to be clarified. I was trying to help, but apparently I was wrong. I am NOT a troll and I treat the animals there better that I treat some people and even myself. I am sorry, catmanjac, but I am not familiar with you. I am not good with the names of the other volunteers, but only faces. If anyone has any actual questions as to our policies and procedures, or just where we are located, I will be happy to answer them. I am beginning to regret starting to try and help, as it has done nothing.

Perhaps the next time you "try to help" you will eliminate the second sentence. You set people up to be defensive. What did you expect?

BTW - K mentions that someone had a bad experience. I had one a few years ago. It doesn't mean that anyone is bashing. In fact, my conclusion was that the volunteers needed more training and education as to the repercussions of misleading a potential adopter about the special needs of each animal.

JAC does wonderful things but makes mistakes like everyone else. You can either accept the comments from people who have had bad experiences as an opportunity to look into a matter and adjust accordingly or you can poo-poo any criticism as bashing.

There are several MOLers who work with JAC and they have always been helpful in explaining the policies.

And I also realize that using the word "bash" was a poor choice. I am sorry if I angered anyone. I believe that I have done some damage, and I would rather stick to answering questions about the JAC, please. For this reason also, I would prefer to remain anonymous.
