My favorite bumber sticker:

Correction: We would like to apologize for the following translation error in the Quran. It is one 70 year young Virgin and not 70 young Virgins! We apologize for any inconvenience this error might have caused.

wow - I am not amused - not to be overly PC, but I think it's ghoulish and culturally insensitive. He's dead - I'm not sorry, but I don't want to see his body with a silly speech bubble.
The picture (sans cartoon) was also on the Times cover & USA Today, others too, I'm sure.

doula--I'm tired of seeing this guy's dead face too. I find it generally disrespectful and tasteless. Maybe other people's sense of revenge is satisfied but I'm tired of it.

A legitimate question about Female Suicide Bombers...

What are they promised when they get to heaven? 70 males virgins (ouch!)? To be one of 70 female virgins for a male bomber (somehow not fair). Really what does the Koran say??

Curious minds want to know.

What makes you think that the 70 Virgins waiting for Zarqawi are female? Or even of our species? One can only hope that he was met with a supreme irony--and that it was in hell.

I saw that cover this morning - gotta agree 100% with Doula and Spare-o, it's horrible. Goes beyond tasteless - it's ghoulish and barbaric IMO.

When "they" show pictures of beheadings, we're rightly repulsed, but parading a photo of a corpse with cartoon bubbles on the cover of the newspaper is equally as uncivilized IMO.

Soldiers have to kill in battle, I understand - but gleefully mocking a dead body is really base. I thought we ( Americans) were/are better than that.

I'm using the term "Americans" loosely, as I am English, but Lydia is right, "We Americans" are better than this, but decency and respect don't sell papers, but shock value and sensationalising seems to.

I am as glad as anyone that this man is no longer, I even try to could understand because of who he was, MAYBE why his picture was on the front page, but the bubble? Tacky and ghoulish, it makes a mockery of it all...

This thread is responsible for my seeing that picture for the first time. Which is to say I'm blissfully unaware of the mainstream press. You should try it. Life is good.

I'm with you Tom, or almost. Went 'temporarily' televisionless
years ago and found it wasn't missed and so never replaced
the damn thing.

I'm connected to the world more by radio, online news and the odd
paper and magazine. And the Post ain't one of them.

Not sure of of going totally cold turkey, though, but am sort of
tip-toeing in that direction.

The other night on t.v, I heard a military spokesperson acknowledge at a press conference that the photo had been photo-shopped before being released to the press. That's why he has that funeral parlour-y look. The spokesperson said they thought the real, bloodier version would have upset people. God forbid that people should realize there's a war on.
