Tom - you scared me! I thought you were talking about "Ligeti Man Meat" (which would have been even freakier given that he just posted something in soapbox...)

What an amazing composer. He'll be missed.

Thanks for the post Tom.

Just listened to "Lontano" and "Continuum". I'm going to have to reload my iPod.

I recall reading once Kubrick's use of Requiem in 2001 was uncredited and used without permission.

It was credited, but it's true he didn't get permission.

Don't forget the Piano Concerto with Aimard.

If you only have 3 minutes, there's the dreamy Corde a vide from Etudes, Book One.

Somehow, the idea of referring to oneself as "Man Meat" doesn't seem compatible with composing brilliant 20th Century works.

I do suspect, and have it on good authority, which I am not at liberty to explain, that the only things Ligeti and Ligeti Man Meat have in common are:

Won't drive an SUV; flip birds at Hummer owners.

Hate guns and hunting.

Don't need no widescreen plasma TVs or supercomputers to do stuff that doesn't need to be done.
