I've gotta figure that Chief Jay Strongbow was better. Once he got the old legs cookin and he started revving up, there was no stopping him. Mil Mascaras was very good but he wasn't able to shift the momentum the way that Jay did. And you could never really be sure it was Mil. There might have been 10 Mils all wrestling the same night. Any thoughts on this? |

I personally liked Mil Mascaras better but one cant overlook Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka in this conversation either. Chief Jay did benefit from his tag team partnership with Billy White Wolf too. |

I loved the Chief, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Scarpa) once he went into that stereotypical War Dance there was no stopping him. He was definitely better than Mil. I never went to Wrestlemania but I did attend a few of the monthly cards at the Garden in the 70's. However how can we forget the big boys debate? Is it Gorilla Monsoon or the big Haystacker (Haystacks Calhoun) weighing in at 601 pounds from Stone Mountain Georgia. Anyway I will leave it up to you two Pencil Neck Geeks to debate my final question, "Who was the better Wrestling manager, The Grand Wizard, Captain Lou Albano or Classy Freddy Blassie

Mil Mascaras never attained the championship status of Sammartino, although neither did Strongbow. Mascaras had much more athleticism...hell, he could fly! And those masks and outfits were awesome! As for the managers, Albano was much more entertaining than anyone else. |

George was actually a high school teacher with a Masters degree. Iron Sheik was voted Most Underrated Wrestler of all-time in the 1980s. The Camel Clutch was his big move but who had the great Sleeper Hold (where they'd play lullabye music over the PA)...was that Rowdy Roddy Piper or Tito Santana? Bob Backlund though..he was a classic. So good he didnt need a gimmick.

Tito Santana is a Spanish teacher in NJ.
and owns Santana's Hair Salon in Succasunna. How about: The Wild Samoans, Bruno Sammartino, The Junkyard Dog, Big John Studd, The Missing Link, along with the others mentioned above....the 80s was a great time in the WWF.

Hank, Sky Low Low was on Steroids, including HGH, the Clear and the Cream. Wait till the truth comes out. He also kissed up to the reporters. THe Haiti Kid kept it real and told it like it was. I think the wrestling writers hold that against him to this very day. |

you know...Im wondering, maybe all the political wrangling in town can be settled the old WWF way...DemMania! I wonder what wrestlers our leaders would emulate in either style or costume. Vic and David would definitely be a tag team. Steel cage match in Ricalton Square, anybody?

Ricky Starr, Haystacks Calhoun, Killer Kowalski, Antonino Rocca, Arnold Skolan ("The Golden Boy"), Buddy Rogers, The Swedish Angel, the Masked Marvel, and the little old lady at ringside bashing the bad guy with her umbrella through the ropes: all part of an evening of Professional Wrestling on TV in the late 50's, just as dramatic as roller derby... -s. |

I can't believe noone has mentioned Dick the Bruiser and Crusher
For 10 years, virtually no one pinned the shoulders of The Bruiser and/or The Crusher. Even fewer made it out of the ring without being battered and bloodied by the violent blue-collar heroes. They were unstoppable, and the fans loved their bombastic exploits. Bruiser and Crusher were so dominant during their matches against the competition (The Valiants, The Texas Outlaws/Rhodes and Murdoch, Von Raschke & Ladd, The Blackjacks, etc.) that once their match was over, they would often trade blows with each other, to the thunderous roar and delight of the sold-out crowds. kap |
