Leonora D. Brzezinski of Linden, 67, longtime teacher in Maplewood Sunday, June 18, 2006 A Mass for Mrs. Leonora D. Brzezinski, 67, of Linden will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Apostle Church, Linden, after the funeral from the Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave., Union. Mrs. Brzezinski died Friday in Overlook Hospital, Summit. A longtime teacher in the Maplewood school system, she taught at the Seth Boyden school from 1968 to 1991 and then at the Maplewood Middle School before retiring in 1994. Before that, she taught in Orange from 1962 to 1968 and in West Milford Township from 1960 to 1962. Mrs. Brzezinski was elected to the third edition of Whos Who Among Americas Teachers in 1994. She graduated from Montclair State University in 1960 and was certified in business education and elementary education. A member of the National Education Association, Mrs. Brzezinski also belonged to the New Jersey and South Orange-Maplewood education associations. Born in Irvington, she lived in Newark before moving to Linden in 1969. Surviving is a sister, Marilyn Neals. Mrs. Brzezinski was my 4th grade teacher. I can spell her name because she put it on our weekly spelling tests; I still can't spell Rhinoceros without spellcheck but "brzezinski" is a breeze for me. She would read us "the Peanuts" every morning. She was a huge Yankees fan. I made sure to point out that I had a cousin who played for the 1959 Yankees. I was really honored that she trusted me enough to give me money to go to Quick Check and get her lunch on a half day. She told us to make sure we looked like ourselves for our school pictures, so that in years to come she would be able to recognize us. |

Bella - Mrs. B (I can't spell that or rhino) sounds like one of those great teachers you never forget. I love that she told you to look like yourselves for your school pictures and she read you "Peanuts" every morning.

Mrs. B.: You are on the other side now, but look how you made a difference in the life of a(n ageing) child. RIP. |

I had Mrs. Brzezinski in 5th grade at MMS... to this day I also remember how to spell her name, it was the first thing we had to learn. I remember her telling us about appearing on Jeopardy, the "With a name like Brzezinski it has to be good!" shirt, and her many stories about her childhood that used to scare the crap out of me. She was a bit of a legend and somewhat of a feared teacher by the time I had her in 1991, but overall left a positive impact on me. Mrs. Brzezinksi was definitely one of those teachers that you never forget, she will be missed. |
