Forgive me for posting here, but I know that many fans of Bunny's Restaurant hang out here. Last night, at the South Orange ABC meeting, the President of our village is caught on video making some very nasty comments about one of (if not THE) oldest business establishment in town. It is outrageous. One of the new trustees also has some hateful comments, but I don't think they cross the line to outright slander. The video is linked from this post in South Orange Specific: http://www.southorangevillage.com/cgi-bin/show.cgi?tpc=3133&post=637701#POST6377 01 |

they are just pissed because everyone likes Bunnys more than them, and when/if they walk into Bunnys everyone there will prove it. Now, is that anyway for people representing the town to act, tsk-tsk-tsk, the people of SO really need to rise up and figure a way to get rid of these blowhards. CAN ANYONE SAY LAWSUIT! now make sure to make plenty of copies of that video so that it doesn't just up and disappear. |

It's also not entirely clear from the video if Mr Calabrese is referring to Bunnys or Cryans or both serving watered-down liquor. |

To me, it is pretty clear what is going on - the snickers start at the mention of bunny's. FIGHT BEHIND THE SCHOOL AFTER FINAL BELL!! While I love the South Orange, I am glad that I am not locally governed by the south orange bigs.

let it go... the cream will rise to the top bets, while I appreciated your comments last night, even if you shouted, your words would fall on deaf ears (the continuing juvenile nature of the meetings is quite sad) /p

We need to remind people of this kind of behavior constantly before the next election. I'm wondering how Eric feels after he ditched his original team to join forces with these clowns. We also need to remind ourselves Leslie and Blaze have way more class then any of the bozos on the BOT, excluding Rosner. But, why didn't he say anything to while these snide comments were being made? |

I wouldn't have posted my thread if I would have known this was here already. I find this to be reallyn upsetting. Maybe the BOT is not going to take this serious but they should lots and lots of families frequent bunny's even if they don't frequent the bar. I do frequent the bar and so do lots and lots of other good SO residences. Not a very smart move... |

Bunnys is the old fashioned mix of family restaurant and bar with great pizza and great for the SHU students and alumni/ae to commiserate after a pirate basketball game! Long live the Bunny!!!

For anyone who has not seen the video it is located here (on a 3rd party site so the BOT cannot alter it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45e92zemoEM Tracey Randinelli also links to it from her blog & the video is getting alot of "hits". |

I don't follow this very closely (who needs the heatburn?) but I will never forget a PL that I received last fall. I'd posted about organizing a MOL holiday party at Bunnie's, sellig tickets and donating the proceeds to charity. Because of timing, we didn't do it. However, someone PLed me to ask that I please reconsider the venue. They thought that it was a wonderful idea, but that there are too many people who won't set foot in Bunnies for any reason. My first thought was "Nice and mature. You either support the charity or you don't." It had nothing to do with putting money in Bunnie's cash register. My second thought was "Kiss my ." I think that I did respond that it was unfortunate that some people could only show conditional support for a MOL fundraiser and that if we proceeded, the venue would be chosen based on criteria such as merchant willingness, price and space. Not someone else's politics. I also said that they would be welcome to join us. I wish to hell that I could remember who sent the PL. But I find it reprehensible that someone would try to disrupt the organization of a chartity event based on a feud with the venue owner. Would they boycott their best friend's birthday party if it were held in a place they didn't like? |

Greenie, my friend, It wasn't me who sent you the PL but I too try to avoid going into Bunnys for various reasons. Whoever sent you that PL doesn't appear to be trying to disrupt the organzation of a charity event but rather attempting to hold it in a more "neutral" arena. The owners of the bar are quite active politically, as you know. And I am sure the author of that PL did find another way to support MOL without attending.

Nancy - regardless of whether it would have been at Bunnie's or not, when someone states that a large number of otherwise-supporters will not attend an event, it is disruptive. Organizers of events (charitable or otherwise) usually don't have ties to the venue. Unless they are lucky and are offered facilities under favorable conditions by a friend or family member (not the case here). Anyone who has organized a large event (and I've done many in my time) will tell you that switching locations is not easy and can derail the entire thing. So, we'll have to agree to disagree about this one. Perhaps the PLer did give to charity, which would have been the right thing to do. But a veiled threat of a boycott to an event which has nothing to do with the venue is not the same as a PL saying "I don't attend events at Bunnies, but please let me know the charity and I will send a donation." That would have shown principles and class. IMHO. |

Nance, It is your choice to patronize any restaurant in town. You must admit, whatever bias you possess, that the comments made by the Village President were totally and completely out of line for an elected official. If you can't acknowledge that, I must call you a political bigot. |

Bets, absolutely. It was far more than inappropriate, especially in a public venue (I'm not any type of bigot, I hope. And since I don't drink, I have no idea if the comments were accurate or not, but they certainly were in very poor taste.) |

I don't think Peter meant to imply BETs actually shouted. I think he meant it as "even if you ***WERE*** to shout your words would fall on deaf ears..." It's kind of like when someone says "Even if a ton a bricks fell on them, they wouldn't get it." Peter?

Dear Nancy: I do drink and I can tell you the comments were not only inaccurate but as a person who grew up in a hotel, I would consider them to be damaging to a business. The fact that they were inappropriate is not even a question.

Nancy- I don't think what you meant to say came out right. I don't drink either; but I know without a doubt there is NO WAY IN HELLo Leslie (or Blaze) would allow ANYONE working for Bunny's to water down anything they sell! Be it alcohol, oda, or soup. Leslie and Blaze are good decent people who give back a lot to the community. They don't deserve to have their business trashed by our elected officals. Why is it we don't hear Calabrese or Jennings making snide comments about any of the Bozos responsible for the current condition wreck our village is in? Perhaps if the business owners who have demolished their buildings leaving gaping holes or mounds of dirt, had the love for our community Leslie and Blaze do our Village would be in better shape! Our BOT; especially the VP owes Bunny's an apology!!! I think he should pay for a full page add in the Snooze Wreckered with money from his own pocket retracting the bogus comment he made. He should then step down as Village President!!! |

Wow. I try not to get involved in the political stuff, but finally watched this video out of curiousity and can't believe it. They really are behaving like spiteful little children, it's absolutely ridiculous! I agree that Bunny's should at least file some sort of formal complaint, though I really don't know if a law suit would be successful. |
