Does anyone know where the recycling center is in SO? I have a car full of recyclables and ours is closed. Please don't make me bring it all back into my house..... |

It is on South Ridgewood on the left hand side heading towards Maplewood just before the park with the tennis courts there is a large green and yellow sign. |

No need, Shanabana. Unlike OUR center, where anyone could come, the South Orange one checks to make sure you area a resident. I just called and they told me no. So there you go - you can dump at ours, but we can't return the favor at yours. Thank god I wash all my cans out....... |

don't you have recycleable pickup in Maplewood? By the way we can't go to "yours" either. I didn't even know Maplewood had one. |

I had the same problem yesterday. There is a sign that says it's closed Monday and Tuesday and here we are on Friday and it's still closed while they put in a new sidewalk in front of the entrance. I went to South Orange but it's not as obvious when you drive in where you need to go to drop off so I had to ask someone and of course they wouldn't let me drop my plastic. It's always something... |

Not sure why SO wouldn't let you drop off your plastic either. However, according to the rules from their website (see below) they only take #1 labelled containers and not the #2 ones. ALLOWED: - GLASS FOOD & BEVERAGE CONTAINERS; - ALUMINUM CANS; - #1 PLASTIC SODA, WATER, MILK OR DETERGENT CONTAINERS (BE SURE THE NUMBER "1" APPEARS IN THE RECYCLING LOGO ON THE PLASTIC CONTAINER); - NEWSPAPER; - HIGH GRADE PAPER; - BRANCHES NO LARGER THAN 6" IN DIAMETER; - CRUSHED & TIED CORRUGATED BOXES; - LEAVES (ONLY IN THE SPRING AND FALL); - ITEMS THAT ARE MADE ENTIRELY OF METAL AND NOT HEAVILY RUSTED; - KITCHEN APPLIANCES (DOORS MUST BE OFF OF REFRIGERATORS AND FREEZERS); - TIRES (AFTER RESIDENT GOES TO VILLAGE HALL AND PURCHASES STICKERS FOR EACH TIRE FROM THE CLERK'S OFFICE THAT IS THEN AFFIXED TO EACH TIRE). NOT ALLOWED: - SHEET OR WINDOW GLASS; - ALUMINUM FOIL OR FOIL PANS; - PROPANE BOTTLES/TANKS; - PAINT CANS -FULL OR EMPTY; - HOUSEHOLD ITEMS/DEBRIS; - GARBAGE; - ROOF SHINGLES; - PLASTIC BAGS; - DOORS/WINDOWS WITH GLASS OR HARDWARE; - RAILROAD TIES OR ANY TYPE OF PRESSURE TREATED OR PAINTED WOOD; - ANY CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: TILES, PLASTER, SHEETROCK, PANELING, WOOD WITH NAILS; - FURNITURE; - TREE STUMPS; - BRANCHES LARGER THAN 6" IN DIAMETER; - GRASS. NOTE: If there are any items you are not sure of or you need additional information, please contact the DPW office at 973-378-7741.

Good thing I don't know where you live - otherwise I'd have to report you or make a citizen's arrest. However they probably wouldn't believe me seeing as I'm from Maplewood (and before that Queens - as opposed to Staten Island). |

Since I'm from Staten Island, former home of the world's largest landfill, ya think I'd know!
