We just had our hardwood floors refinished and now there is a rippling that goes perpendicular to the boards throughout the entire room. The contractor claims that that is due to the boards not being nailed down securely causing them to vibrate. There is also dried finish pushing up from between the slats.

Anyone had any experience with either of these problems. The contractor is coming over tonight to take a look.

I'd say that you got a less than perfect job on the sanding.

The answer you received sounds like BS to me.

But, you never know.

I do have old floors, had them re-sanded and I did not get this problem.

The contractor came (Expert Flooring) and gave me the worst cock and bull story you can imagine...and was incredibly rude. He was "too tired" to look at the extruding finish. I'm going to sue the jerk. DON'T EVER USE EXPERT FLOORING!

It sounds like it could be poor prep, rippling is usually caused by a greasy substance left on the floor from another source.

Another floor guy told me this guy was full of it and he gave me a price of $700 to redo the floors. I told Expert Floors to either give me $700 or I'd sue him for twice that in small claims court. He called me and told me he'd be over tomorrow night with a check for $700! I told him, "I really respect that. Make it $500." This is not how I thought this story was going to end.

Why settle for less than his offer of $700? He came clean on his error by offering it readily, and that's the least he can do.

By the way, we just had our floors done by Russo. He's a very nice guy and does excellent work.

We second the recommendation for Russo floors. Great job, nice guy and not a huge amount of dust left for us considering all the work they did. We started with our apartment and ended up having him do the downstairs apartment also! We had to evacuate the premises for about a week with the four cats (holidasy inn in springfield will take pets) so it actually cost a bit more in the end...but his price was very reasonable!
