Has anyone out there had work done by PLC Construction (Pete Costa)? I'm tearing down some walls and building some outdoor stairs and he came to my house and provided a reasonable bid to do the work on very short notice. Another question: do contractors need licenses to do this kind of work in NJ or do they just need insurance and permit(or do they need anything at all?)

Plumbers and electricians need the licenses, carpenters don't, I suggest you call the building dept and ask if a permit is required, most likely it is, however, the contractor will most likely tell you it isn't necessary. The permit is to protect you, it will ensure the contractor meets the codes etc. |

Thanks for the info, GRW. The contractor will be getting the permits prior to beginning the job (from Mr. Middemeyer?). Another question: What type of insurance should I expect a contractor to carry for a small ($3,000) job? Just worker's comp? General liability? |
