We want/need to install a sprinkler system for our lawn. Any recommendations?

I have no idea what they cost either, any ballpark figures for an average sized lawn?

Are you looking to do the front and back of your home? Most underground sprinklers need to be zoned so that they run on a cycle. You can't have twenty sprinkler heads all pop up at once, since it relies on being pressure driven. We had a sixteen zone system installed front and back. Each zone feeds anywhere between six and eight heads. We chose to go with a more confined spray pattern as opposed to the kind you would see on a golf course, where the water is hurled great distances. Some zones do shrubs, others do grass areas. I would suggest you call a few irrigation companies for estimates. Our irrigation company, who at this point I wouldn't unconditionally recommend was included in our landscaper contract. That was the only aspect of our outside makeover that I had reservations about.

Ballpark figure you need to expect would be in the $3000 - $8000 range. (Some range eh?)

If you have the energy and want to make it a do-it-yourself project, it is not unheard of. Our terrain was much too varied for that possibility.

$3,000 to $8,000 - well, over the years it will be worth it, my lawn suffers because I forget and then underwater and later I overwater when I eventually get around to putting the sprinkers out.

I guess I'll just call numbers in the Yellow Pages, too bad, I was hoping someone had good experience with a local company.

Sprinkler Systems in Springfield 973-379-3220 did a professional job in installing system for us year and a half ago which has worked well. Been great about providing instructions via phone re: turning it off and on (thus saving service calls).

I can recommend Empire Lawn & Sprinkler (in Springfield?) -- they did not install my system, but I've used them since I moved in the house for the spring start up, fall shut down -- and they are very reasonable.

Repairs have been handled quickly and for a lot less than I would be able to pay almost anyone else to come out to my house!

If you can't find them in the book -- private line me, and I'll look for a bill.

Pete
