I just had Ken Pettis of Furniture Medic come out last week. He restores furniture either at his shop or on the premises. Very nice guy. I don't know if he does upholstery, but I'm sure he could recommend someone who does. Don't have his number handy but Furniture Medic is located in South Orange if you need to look it up.

Ultimate Upholstery on Valley Street (SO) does a very good job. At different times, they've reupholstered a couch, a couple of dining chairs, and a cushion for a window seat for me. Nice guys, reasonable prices, and reliable return dates.

If you're looking for someone for wood stripping, I recommend Wood Strip, 4 Ashland Ave (adjacent to the Edison Museum) in West Orange. 973-736-0615. They've done probably 2-3 dozen things for me over past 12 years.

While you're there, you can walk one short block (across the street, actually) to Fabulous Wallcoverings. They have an enormous selection of fabrics. Located at 179 Main Stree, WO 973-673-2220. Fabulous also does uphostery work. I haven't used them for upholstery per se, but they've made cushions, curtains, valances and other things for me.

Someone will probably also recommend Terminal Mill Ends in Union. Also a good place, but I find Fabulous to be more laid-back.

Ken has worked on stuff for me and then worked with Ultimate to get the upholstery done. All excellent work!

European Refinishing (?) - Valley Street in the back of Animal Kingdom Dog Groomers. Old world refinishing by a master craftsman. He is very busy though and don't know if he has a wait or not.
