I just called nj transit (at about 4:15pm), just in case the online info wasn't completely up to the minute. They confirmed that we need to go through hoboken tonight, but anticipate the trains to be running normally tomorrow morning. Joy...

The Hoboken commute yesterday was HORRIBLE! Getting home last night was a NIGHTMARE! The 6:08PM left about 1 1/2 hour LATE! I feel a repeat commute happenning today, seems like Groundhogs Day all over again.... |

I understand that you can take a bus directly from Hoboken to Port Authority. NJT ticksts are being cross honored. My question is why is this derailment taking so long to clear? I know the area of the incident is a bit removed, but now, twenty-four hours later, the tracks are still closed. |

I'm sure they're doing an investigation and I'm sure they can't just clear the tracks and let trains run when they do that. Still it is a while now. |

One of the conductors, as well as a guy who was on the derailed car told us that the train took down a {insert word that starts with "c" that means the big metal brackets that hold up the wires that make the trains go}. That's the biggest reason for the holdup getting things back to normal. |

Yep - that was almost it. Catenary: Overhead wire system on elecricfied railroads for suppling current to electric locomotives and self-propelled cars equipped with pantographs. Fusee: A warning device consisting of a cardboard tube filled with a combustible mixture of chemicals that burns brightly when ignited and remains burning for varying lengths of time. Fusees are ignited and dropped on the right of way to indicate to a following train the presence of stopped or slow-moving equipment ahead. Torpedo: An explosive cap fastened to the top of the rail and exploded by the pressure of a rolling wheel to give an audible indication of conditions on the track ahead. http://parovoz.com/spravka/RailroadDefinitions.html Looks like it's dinner in hoboken tonight... |
