We're planning on having some landscaping done (mostly just the planting of shrubs/plants), and wondered if there's a right time or wrong time to do a project like that. Is it best to do it in the Fall before the frost or wait until Spring? Does it make a difference? |

Fall for sure. Spring planting runs the risk of lack of rain and heat before plants take hold. |

BUT--keep in mind that certain shrubs may be harder to find in the fall. |

Can you plant shrubs or trees during July-August or do you have to wait until Fall?

Is there a good time, or bad time to prune back shrubs that are overtaking the front of my house? Can I do it any time or is the summer bad or what? Any help is appricated. |

The best pruning time varies by species. For spring flowering shrubs, you should prune after they bloom. For fall flowering, you can prune in the spring. Privet can be pruned at any time. However, I seem to get the best results with privet by pruning heavily in February or March only so that the foliage is nice and full during the growing season. I suppose that pruning during a drought is ill-advised. |
