I want to buy an outdoor dining set with umbrella and was surprised how expensive they are. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can find a nice, reasonably priced set? |

It's probably late in the season but IKEA has some great stuff at reasonable prices--we were too late 2 years ago but got there in early May this year and got what we needed. Costco might also be worth a look. |

Anything you like you can purchase via the North Carolia method. Stores there carry nearly every brand at deeply discounted prices. Let me know if you need more info about NC shopping. I have a book that lists every store and the brands they carry. And the best part is: No tax. |

Maplewoody, Hanamint was not listed as one of the brands that they carry. However, a large number of NC stores carry Brown Jordan and Tropitone, which are two popular outdoor-furniture manufacturers. I'd be happy to look in my reference book for any other brands -- outdoor or indoor furniture -- that people are interested in.

We got a nice set this year at Target ... they seemed to have much better prices than most of the other places we looked and a good selection. We are very happy with what we got. That was a couple of months ago, so I don't know what they have in stock now. |

Shoshannah, Is there a place where I can get that catalog you have? Sounds interesting. |

I would recommend you check out Pelican Ski and Sport located on Rt 10 about 3 miles west of the exit off I-287. Their phone number is 973 267 0964. We bought two sets out there, and the price was half of what Treasure Island charges. Just for example, swivel/rockers were $375 at Treasure Island and were $189 at Pelican. Same brand, same model. (Some people have too much money based on what we saw at Treasure Island.)

AZ: "The Furniture Factory Outlet Guide," by Kimberly Causey. It lists every furniture store and factory outlet in North Carolina and provides detailed info about each (brands they carry, payment policies, contact information, etc.) The same author also wrote "The Insider's Guides to Buying Home Furnishings." I bought both books in Barnes & Noble, and they were worth it. I recently purchased about $9,000 worth of furniture for just under $5,000. And no tax. Delivery charge was $309.00 |

Costco has a beautiful set. Reduced from $1000 to $900. That's a lot of money but it lasts forever. We bought one there 4 years ago and it's still beautiful. |

How about the auction in Dover? Berman's Auction House has weekly auctions which often have cast iron (happy hernia)antique and semi-old stuff. Pound for pound, its a bargain. |
