We had two dogwoods along the curb. One died about six years ago, and, after two years of pleading phone calls, the town replaced it with another dogwood, which died about two years ago. Earlier this summer, the town came and removed the dead tree. Neither we nor the town has replaced it.

Now, the other dogwood seems to be dying; it has a lot of brown leaves and branches. As far as I know, no toxic chemicals have been used on our yard.

Anyone have any clue as to what would cause the curb trees to die -- while other trees are very healthy and thriving?

Also: should we try planting anything along the curb now? Some of our neighbors have large trees (oak, sycamore) along the curb, and those trees seem to do quite well.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I have thoughts. I have a old and healty dogwood. We use Save a tree, and have them apply a spray in the spring to deal with a worm and a bloom drop problem. We also have a fall application of a decicent (sp) to retard the fluid loss during cold winters.

As I said, it sure helps a lot and the old tree looks great.

There is a blight that kills dogwoods. The first sign is dead branches. I don't know much more about it, but suggest you call the county agricultural extension service.

The problems dogwoods are experiencing are a flower and leaf blight infection in addition to anthracnose. Both are aggravated by cool wet spring conditions which we had this year. The only remedial treatment at this time of year is to apply a bio-stimulant to the root system.

Thanks to all. Toad, is there a brand name for the bio-stimulant?
