Question,
Both my furnace and hot water heater exhaust lead into my chimney and have a hard putty looking substance and what appears to be quikcrete caked on around the perimeter of each, where the aluminum meets the mortar. The putty is beige in color seems to be pulling away from the mortar and the quickcrete is coming loose and falling off. Is there a better/neater more permanent way of sealing these 2 outlets other than the hard putty and the quickcrete? They seem to have been just thrown on there. Also, I felt heat coming out where the pipe meets the mortar while the hot water heater was firing. Probably due to these 2 substances coming loose.

Thanks

It's called furnace cement. Crack off the loose stuff and trowel on this stuff....

You can find it at any decent plumbing supply house.
