From today's Ledger: (italics/bold mine)

Nine, including police officer, charged with Ecstasy trafficking

The Associated Press
7/29/2003, 1:21 p.m. ET

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Nine people, including a person who later became a police officer, were arrested by federal authorities Tuesday on charges they smuggled Ecstasy into the United States.

Christopher Rea of West New York operated the ring from October 1999 to December 2001, giving money to the eight others to buy the illegal stimulant from suppliers in Europe, according to a nine-count indictment unsealed with the arrests.

Rea's couriers included Brian Cohen, 29, of Clifton, who is now a Maplewood police officer, federal prosecutors said.

The couriers bought Ecstasy in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, the indictment said.

They smuggled it back to Newark Liberty International Airport by hiding the drug underneath their clothes, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

All are charged with conspiracy to import Ecstasy, which carries up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. All but Rea also face one or more charges of importing Ecstasy, which has the same penalties.

Rea, 35, and the others, all from New Jersey, were to make court appearances Tuesday afternoon.

At least they'll always have Paris.

In response to luv2cruise,
Your remarks on this site have always been juvenile at best, and completely inappropriate at worst. The remark of "That's our wonderfull force" is without a doubt, the MOST assinine utterance that you have ever posted! First of all, the Officer only stands accused at this time, and will be presumed innocent. If, he is found guilty, the law will punish him accordingly. Also, to judge the entire Force on the arrest of ONE, new Officer, is so entirely uncalled for and juvenile, that I can only hope that you are just a young, uninformed person in our Community. Please use a LITTLE common-sense and quit yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater.

Thank You,

The Light.

Dearest Luv2Cruise,

I am announcing tonight that you have won a Lifetime Poopyhead Award for your comment about our police force.

We have got a hell of a good police force and thelight is dead on target when he says that you should not judge the entire department based upon the charges rendered against one.

I imagine that if this officer is found guilty, that our police force would be more interested in seeing him get the maximum penalty than just about anyone else.

Any experience I have ever had with the Maplewood PD has been an exceptionally positive experience. When I was laid up and needed a temporary handicap parking application, they had an officer bring it to my home. Whenever we have called them with requests for information or assistance, their response has been stellar.

Luv2cruise, you really are totally off base with that comment of yours.

Folks,
THe following message from luv2cruise, has been brought to you by....An individual who hides behind hi/her computer screen, and hurls "hilarious", and inappropriate, shielded comments towards anyone/anything that he/she feels can be targeted on this anonomous site!. luv2cruise, it would not be very hard to find out your true identity on this site..........Then when you are identified, I can imagine your original, and side-splitting retorts would quickly cease.

Thank You,

The Light.

The Light,

While Luv2cruise's post is incorrect and somewhat crude, your comments have the faint ring of AJC's threats to pay a bounty for the identity of another poster here. That was met with a rather severe admonition from the webmaster of MOL. Personally, I think this is even more egregious, because you claim to be an officer. These are only words. No inquiries by politicians, police internal affairs boards or court systems would be sparked by Luv2's comments.

If you feel their posts are idiotic, then just scroll past them. I call on the MOL webmaster to intercede and warn you of the consequences of threats, either veiled or blatant.

Us2innj,

“While Luv2cruise's post is incorrect and somewhat crude, your comments have the faint ring of AJC's threats to pay a bounty for the identity of another poster here.”

It’s not a good idea to kick sleeping dogs…

Personal attacks against real people by anonymous posters, vs. two anonymous posters going at it is one thing, bringing me into your little rant is another.

You’re a pretty sleazy character yourself, and I’ve dealt with your bashing me before. You talk about “the consequences of threats, either veiled or blatant”, what do you call your comment about “the faint ring of AJC’s threats”. I really don’t appreciate your comment and its not so veiled dig…

I suggest you better take your own advice, and if you feel someone, or something is idiotic, just scroll past it.

This advice goes especially to when it comes to including me in your comments, unless of course you “two” are interested in dealing with me face to face?

What you call my rant is fully based in fact. Do you not remember offering cash for the identity of CFA?

The rest of your post, I will ignore as always.

Defending Luv2cruise's comments, and his/her ability to say demeaning things about the entire police force in our town tells much about us2innj. It would serve both 2's well if they were to face situations where each were required to seek police assistance. Knowing how well our force deals with doing their job, they will change their tune swiftly.

Where do I defend the comments made? I called them "incorrect", "crude", and "totally off base".

I go on to say what positive experiences we have had with MPD. I would re-read the postings I have made zoe.

The only point I took exception to was this bounty mentality that has come up on these boards in the past.

When posters engage in personal attacks, all bets are off… Yes, I did and understand I will leave no stone unturned to locate someone who personally attacks my family or me.

Rewards are commonly used and helpful in all walks of life to bring about the desired results. To those of us who feel this way about personal attacks, it means by any lawful means necessary.

BTW, in case you haven’t noticed, Cfa and I have dealt with our differences and both of us have moved on to a pleasant co-existence…

It would serve all of us better if you gave up some of the crap that came up on these boards in the past, as well as what ever your problem is with me.

Hey, why not just follow the example set by Cfa and I and maybe we can also move on to a pleasant co-exixtence? So, would you like to and makeup?

To us2innj,
I've re-read my previous post several times, and I can't for the life of me, see a "threat". I was just stating a fact that when luv2cruise's identity becomes known, the childish posts will cease. Not because of the "carrying out" of any perceived threat, but because of accountability. Anyone that can note ANYTHING threatning in ANY of my posts, must be reading them with a preconceived agenda.

Thank You,

The Light.

it's terroristic for a police officer to suggest he might seek the identity someone who has critized police anonymously. this form of "outing", including the cretins emailing employers and the like, has become the modus operandi of right-wing talk radio fanatics everywhere on the 'net. they are a subculture of underachievers who have convinced themselves they are on a white man's jihad. scary people, frankly.
