Big Train will bring their brand of horn-infused funkification to Orphan Annie's in nearby Stirling, NJ this Sunday night (August 3rd) for a special showcase set. Located at 1255 Valley Road in Stirling, Orphan Annie's has been one of New Jersey's premier live music venues for more than 25 years. It's only about 20 minutes from Maplewood and just a few miles off of Route 78 West. There's no cover and no minimum. The band is excited about this opportunity and we would appreciate all the support we can get. It will be a very early set, about 9:00 PM, so you can be home early and well rested for Monday morning ... Rumor has it Hank Zona will be making an appearance. There's also an open jam going on after Big Train's set if you feel like playing! We hope that you can make it! People get ready. Chris, Mentioning that I may make an appearance...are you trying to dissuade others from showing up? |

Real good show last night in Stirling, Ohio. A number of Maplewoodians turned out for it (including the band) and despite a local audience that was hoping for the Guns 'n Roses tribute band, Big Train won them over. It was, embarrassed to say, my first Big Train show, and these guys can play and Chris can sing. My only minor criticism is that Chris cant do splits, and Chris, if you want to give them the full James Brown effect, you need to learn to do a real good split like JB (that down to the floor and pop right back up kind, without severing a hamstring). And one more thing that actually matters, Big Train is not just playing good music, theyre having alot of fun doing it too, proving once more, live music is better. |

Hank: Thanks for the kind words. Yes! Big Train was having a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you who showed up last night. We were pretty happy with the turn-out. Peace out to our Brothers from The Dog and thanks to Mr. Pink and The Commando for coming by. The rest of y'all should add Orphan Annie's to your "Place To See Live Music" list. Very cool bar, friendly staff ... Ladies, I know what you're thinking ... Yes, BK does have very sexy legs, but he's a married man!
Next stop: O'Reilly's on September 13! Big Train returns to the House of Walter!

UPDATE: This just in ... Big Train will be returning to Orphan Annie's, in nearby Stirling, NJ, on Saturday August 30! Apparently, there was a discrepancy with our bar tab and we've been asked to work it off ... ONLY 20 minutes from Maplewood. Three sets of horn-infused funkification and a get up off your ass and dance guarantee. There's a $5 cover, but it's worth it. It's gonna be so damn funky, you gonna be able to smell it. Lawd, have mercy. Hank Zona says "I have seen the future of rock 'n' soul and it's name is Big Train ..." Mark your calendar and we hope to see you at the show ... People get ready. www.bigtraintracks.com PS. It's not too early to book Big Train for your Halloween or Holiday party! |

Chris, I dont remember saying that, and I only had two beers that night, but I will say this, it was white guys in England playing in bars and small clubs that saved and resurrected the blues (some of the names of those UK bands and guitarists escape me), so its great to hear something similar being done with funk and r&b. You guys do it well. I will reserve actually saying you are the future of rock 'n' soul until you can successfully complete that James Brown down to the floor and up split (without severing your hamstring). Hows that? And for anyone new to the area who likes live music, we're fortunate to have a number of really good bands comprised of your neighbors who play in the area regularly, Big Train being one of them...try and catch them and support them. |
