What is the going rate for a babysitter to watch one child in this area? |

East side or west side? (Sorry, I really shouldn't have done that. I just couldn't take it any more.) |

I pay a 19 year old $8/hour to watch my 19 month old. I am using a new babysitter who is 13 this weekend -- we haven't discussed money yet. |

My 14-year-old daughter (Red Cross certified babysitter) gets $5-$6 per hour for one child, a little more for multiple children. |

We pay between $6 and $7 for our two children to our 15 y.o. sitters. Our 25 y.o. sitter (with lots of nanny experience) that we use sometimes gets $11 an hour. |

We pay $10 an hour to a woman in her 50s who moonlights from her regular job as a nanny. I think for $10 and up, you should expect to get an older person (20s and up) with professional childcare experience. |

I pay adult sitters $10-$13/hour to sit our three small children. You get what you pay for. Adult sitters are more responsible, reliable (no last minute cancellations) and they leave your house tidier than when you left for the date! If sitting for just a few hours, the higher hourly rate helps to keep them happy and coming back when you need them. |

My almost 16 year old( Red cross and CPR trained) gets $7.00 and is in constant demand. Probably could get more but just hasn't asked for it. She and all her friends are responsible, reliable and never cancel at the last minute unless they have arranged for someone else to take their place ...unlike some parents who think nothing of cancelling on them at the last minute. I remember charging 50 cents an hour ($1.00 after midnight) but times sure have changed. |

We pay our 25ish sitter $10/hour. I have also used a friend's au pair, who was younger and we paid her $7-8/hour. But I would NEVER leave my two young children with someone under 16-17 years old! |

after being a counselor at the rec kids kamp (a great program) this summer i am always being called by people to babysit. i know first aid, cpr, and the heimlich. and i wont babysit for less than 10perhour which i think is fair. especailly for multiple children. but also i like kids and play with them and i am a good cook so i make food for them. plus being a guy boys really love me. |

I babysit, for several families, and I do believe it goes by what they can pay, for instance, the people i bbysit for in short hills, pay more than in maplewood, they also have more kids, many factors involved: Family's income Babysitter's quality Number of children and what is your instinct on a good price, discuss the fee with the babysitter. Try to set a flat rate, if there are different circumstances from time to time, fees can be altered. Hope I have helped. |

Flugermongers - what do you do, ask for a W4 form before you decide your rate? how do you determine a family's income? if we have a larger house and a Mercedes in the driveway, you charge us more? if you showed up and tried using that rationale on me, you'd be out on the doorstep faster than you could say "Sesame Street." By your logic, i should pay more for gas or food just because someone thinks I have more money. |

Any suggestions about how to find babysitters in town? How have others found them? |
