Just had take-out from the Mazar Kebab House (Irvington Ave. and Ward Pl) after noticing it the other day when driving by and I'm happy to report it was delicious. We had kebabs but the menu includes lots more. It is not only a take-out restaurant, in fact my husband (who picked up the food) reported that the restaurant is actually quite charming. I post this because we couldn't be happier about this find (I think it's about 4 months old), since the only complaint I have since moving here from Brooklyn last year is the shortage of very good, reasonably priced ethnic restaurants. We also tried Tinga (new tex-mex in Millburn this week that also delivers and that was a good experience as well).

The wife and I had dinner at the Mazar Kebab House last week and everything was lovely. As a matter of fact she took a group of her girlfriends back a few days later. The result was the same, great!

Jerry and I visited this Afghan restaurant tonight with 9 neighbors. They accommodated us at a large table in our own 'room' - which was smart of them considering we did as much laughing as eating.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are surely going back. Food was excellent! Service good! Ambience very nice! Company excellent! Entree pricing with salad was as low as $9. And, it's BYOB.

We just had dinner at the Mazar Kebab House - what a great experience. The manager was very friendly and accomodating, the place was cozy and clean and the food was absolutely fabulous!!! We had a 3 course meal with drinks (try their mango juice) for approx $18 pp - what a great price for such great food!
Try it - you'll LOVE it

We've been very pleased with our two take-out experiences at Mazar Kebab House. The setting is so nice, that I can't wait to eat there.

I agree with the positive comments. We've eaten there a couple of times. The food's good, reasonably priced and the owners are quite friendly. I hope the location doesn't kill them; it's a litt;e off the beaten track.. Too bad they couldn't replace Neelam's, which (IMO) is a waste of good real estate.

We also enjoyed the food at the Kebab House. The service was uneven, but pleasant (no ice in drinks, got lemon instead of lime, brought stemmed glass for 3 yr old...no biggies...somehow we survived ;) ). It's an inexpensive, tasty alternative. We'll be back

I have been to Mazur Kebab House 3 times in the past month or so...each time it has been fresh and delicious..the BEST thing is that the staff has been so friendly to our 15 month old daughter and also very understanding about my dad, who has dementia. At my request they brought him his drink and soup very quickly so he wouldn't get antsy and were happy to let Sofia explore the restaurant's fountain and traditional seating booth. The spaciousness of their floor plan really helps - you aren't sitting on top of other folks.. And again, the food was so tasty and just different enough from the usual ethnic fare offered in the area to be truly special...go and check it out!!

I agree with Liz...we like the Kebab House quite a bit. Since they first opened they have improved quite a bit.

Service, atmosphere, food are all very good. A real big plus is price. Heck, even the picky second grader eats everything on his plate. Order everything you want on the menu and the bill is still under $50.00.

On the down side is the fact that they aren't doing a whizz-bang business. Unless revenue goes up you can see them closing up shop.

In summary, eat kebab!

I wouldn't assume they're doing all that badly. Neelam seems to stay in business in a location that must have much higher rent, and there never seems to be anyone in there.
