I am building an addition to my deck and need to lay cement foundations for the posts. How far down do I need to dig to be below the frost line? What is the frost line for Maplewood?

36-42 inches if you want to be safe. There is a code requirement. It is less. Call the building department.

I think the code requirement is four feet, although I may be wrong. Jg's suggestion to call the building deparment is a good one.

Incidentally, is there anywhere you can review the local building code, hopefully on line?
