Gov. McGreedy was talking about limiting the property relief program this year to households that make $100,000 or less. Does anyone know if he actually did it? By the way, how does everyone feel about Gov. McGreedy taking an all expenses paid trip to Puerto Rice with his family paid by the Teamsters?

According to the NJ tax website: 1.Income Qualification. No rebate will be paid to any individual or married couple with gross income in excess of $200,000 for the 2002 tax year. 2.Rebate Amount Limitation. The amount to be paid for the 2002 tax year will be 50% of the NJ SAVER rebate amount for tax year 2001. Amounts vary by municipality. The average rebate amount for 2002 is $250. Average amount for Maplewood is $368.93 |

The $200,000 limitation was in effect last year. As I understood it, the proposal was to lower the limitation to $100,000 this year. Has that happened or did it remain at $200,000? I suspect that this will make the difference to a rather large proportion of the local population. As is the case for the property tax amounts, the average rebate amount in our community was considerably higher than the state average. (My home is fairly close to the average Maplewood assessment and I believe our rebate was about $600 or so last year.) |

I think it stayed at $200,000 but they halved the amount we're receiving. The webpage says it was updated 7/21/2003. http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/index.html?relief.htm~mainFrame |

Thanks for the link. We can receive no more than 50% of the payment we received in 2002. Gross income limit is still $200,000. McGreedy effectively raised my property taxes another 4.2%.
