The "rap is bad" thread made me wonder, are there any WFMU listeners on here? I know I've seen a few shirts and bumper stickers around town... - James For those who don't know, WFMU (91.1, wfmu.org) is one of the country's few freeform radio stations. Rolling Stone said it's the best station in the country 4 years in a row or so. And it's in your own backyard. |

It's my favorite too. However, since 9/11, I listen to 1010 WINS for my commute. |

i listen occasionally, although i'm not really a fan of a lot of what they play. i like "greasy kid stuff" on saturday mornings as well as some of their rock shows like "teenage wasteland." (and since i work two blocks from their studio, i stopped by last week and bought lemonade from andy breckman's on-air lemonade stand.) but mostly i listen because it's a virtual guarantee that every time you tune in you'll hear something you've never heard before. think for a minute; how many radio stations can you say that about? their freeform approach is truly unique in this day and age.

my only beef with them is there's way to much chatter in between sets. I'm not always in the car that long, and I find myself wishing they'd shut up and play another great record. |

WFMU is as Glen Jones says, free form radio as it ought to be. His show on Sundays is great, the music is great and his schtick, although long-winded at homes, is truly funny. Hova and Belinda of Greasy Kids Stuff are also great and they were fantastic when my daughter interviewed them for the school paper last year. Support their show..theyre SO residents. And Laura Cantrell, of the Radio Thriftshop, not only has a really good show (I think its been voted top radio show in TimeOutNewYork a few years running), but shes an excellent performer herself, having opened for Elvis Costello last year. |

It's funny. I really like Laura Cantrell's music, but I'm not a big fan of her show. I like Meredith's country show - Trash, Twang and Thunder - a lot more. But Jonesy and X-Ray are the best. |

FMU is the best radio station in the world. I love Brian Turner's show, Seven Second Delay (I won the Andy Breckman Thanksgiving turkey scavenger hunt this year), Chris T. and a bunch of others. And they've got one of the best Web sites I've ever seen. |
