Sorry for shouting but...

Does this freak anyone else out as much as it does me?

I just couldn't believe it.

It's like going to Carvel and them not having any ice cream!

Any other analogies?

Or maybe an explanation other than grotesque incompetence...?

Be well, all.

actually, they probably had truck loads of garbage cans, but, as is typical, no one who works at the store knew where they were, the manager didn't care, and they were shouting at you to buy their sales items or have your house resided. ;-)

David,
Not sure what the problem over there is, but I purchased 2 trash cans there last night, there were dozens of them.
I agree with Pete that there was probably just no one who could show you where they were.

I think they are usually kept in garden center, that seperate area way over on the other side of the building, with the flowers, plants and lawn care stuff.

So....I was so freaked out that I asked at least 5 people in orange aprons, 4 had no clue and the fifth said that they thought ordering them had been omitted!

When I asked for a manager they said there was only one assistant mangaer and he was....IN THE VAULT COUNTING MONEY!!!!!

-af...Which HD did you patronize and what substance were your cans made of? The ones there were none of were the standard plastic (often Rubbermaid but other brands too) trash cans that are ubiquitous--there were plenty of huge galvanized ones but not one of the others in any size.

Emmie, Pete...I went to the garden area which is where the 30 foot gaping empty lack of cans first floored me and HD staff explicitly acknowledged that there were none in the house.

grw...I assume you mean at HD...any particular description or size?

I guess the point here is that these huge stores HAVE NO REASON TO LIVE EXCEPT HAVING EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME!! Shopping in them is generally so unpleasant that if they've eaten and digested all the normal stores and then DON'T HAVE GARBAGE CANS (or hammers or the bulb you need, etc..) then we need our small, helpful, accessible stores back, at least they'd order something for 1 customer and have it befeore armageddon.

Actually, armageddon may kick in soon at this rate...(nice spoiled ranting, David!!)

Many thanks and be well, all.

David
I agree completely. I'm usually in HD 2-3 times a week and if you don't know where it is, Just keep walking until you find it. It will take less time than asking one of the many zombie's walking around the store.

If you use HD, go to East Hanover (route 10), it's a longer drive but they actually greet you at the door. Some guy with an orange apron asked me if I needed help and I think the blank stare he got from me confused him.

If you need for general Home stuff, go to the "Mom & Pop" Hardware store. Less of a selection but same price and better service. There are 2 Hardware stores in Milburn and I have used both with great satisfaction....

Good luck and good night....!

I couldn't agree with you more, David. I don't know what it is about HD, but I rarely ever have a satisfactory experience. I know it looks like they have a million plumbing parts (which is what I used to buy there on occasion) but much more often than not, they don't have whatever it is I'm looking for.
Even worse than that is when they actualy have what I'm looking for but tell me they don't and I find it myself after poking around for awhile. Generally, I go there for light bulbs and heavy duty garbage bags. They can keep the rest of it.

David:

Have you tried looking in Sears? That's where we go when we need garbage cans of the type you describe.

We've boycotted the one in Vauxhall - they usually have no helpful people and massive line-ups. The one on 22 is better (longer drive, but the wait in line is much less).

cannuck-

i completely disagree with your assessment.

the one on 22 is much farther to get to, and once you get there, if you approach from the east, you have one of the most dangerous driving maneuvers i've ever attempted- crossing 3 lanes of 22 at a u-turn within about 150 feet. once inside, i don't think the service is that much better. and, at least one sunday, the hours at springfield were one hour longer- i was kicked out of 22 and sent to springfield.

Uhm, Hello, there are a lot of u-turns on good old US22. Going a half a mile up the road would safe a heck of a lot of wear and tear on your nervous system. I do, however, agree that 22 is one of the worst roads to drive on in New Jersey, and that is saying a lot! :-)

We find the route into the Home Depot on 22 exciting. To make it even more exhilarating, we don't check before merging! Try getting into Target using the merge right near by - that one's even better!

We don't get out much.

This is a side note on HD, but I seem to go into some kind of overload trance as soon as I enter that place - I wander around, not remembering what I really need & just try to get out of the way of beeping forklifts...invariably, I forget what I came to buy (even though I make a list), buy what I already have at home (but can't find/don't feel like looking for) & fail to return what I needlessly bought last time...ugh

doulamomma, that's what tends to happen to many people at gigantic stores of many types. I'm talking about supermarkets, Home Despot, wholesale places, and others. I think this might be by design. Maybe when we're zombies, we make more impulse purchases. Home Despot seems to be particularly zombifying for me.

I used to get that way at Bloomingdales on 59th Street. All those mirrors. All those frantic people who wanted the clothes way more than me. I walked into a wall more than once before giving the place the back of my hand back in 1998.

I get like that at Cosco. I used to go in needing frozen chicken breasts and come out with $300 worth of stuff I don't need.
Now I go with a list. But I'm simple that way.
