Sbenois, Maplewood's Leading Authority and the owner of the only large uneaten turnip in town, is pleased to announce the following suggestion on the Strawberry banishment issue:

King Dave, I know that you agree with me that this matter is of the highest importance in the MOL universe. As such, it seems to me that the only fair way to resolve the issue to to have it forwarded to the military tribunal currently headed up by the glorious, brilliant Commodore Pike. The Commodore is more than able to bring this issue to a fair conclusion. Commodore Pike is a man of very few words, as you know, and he is not capable nor interested in having this turn into a long Harpo type of debate.

So justice will be quick.

If you are in agreement, I would urge you to give the Commodore a call and he will render a binding decision based upon the evidence.

Thankey

I thought strawberry made it clear that he was finished posting here. There was never any mention of his being intimidated, and even so, if someone acts in such a provocative moronic manner, they should accept the consequences of the reaction they created in the first place. Nobody needs his energy here, except the same kind of lost people who have the same type of mentality as the people who become enamoured with serial killers in prison, and who needs them either.

Dave, I'd be happy to donate a Perl script to periodically start threads with titles like "I worship George W. Bush" every couple of days. It would be just about as enlightening as the typical Strawberry post

Hey, remember that Star Trek episode where Scotty was on trial for murder? It turns out that the crime was committed by an ancient evil being, who had been Jack the Ripper, among other evildoers. The creature would inhabit different bodies, and lived on the fear he created.

For some reason, this thread made me think of that.

Nohero,

My brother was the Star Trek fan in our house, but I always watched that episode ("Wolf in the Fold") with him. The diminutive guy inhabited by the evil spirit was played by John Fiedler, who is familiar to anyone who, like me, watched too much TV over the past 30 years, maybe best as the builiding manager for the "Security Arms" in the Odd Couple. You can still hear his squeaky voice on some cartoons.

The needs of the many, out weigh the needs of the few - or the one.

I wouldn't mind if straw came back.

Strawberry has seen this thread. He cannot stand Star Trek, or nerds in general. As a result, he has asked that the drift center on something else. His suggestion, John Wayne movies.

Thank You, as hew would say.

Dearest S,

I would like to serve on the Free Strawberry jury. When will the goodly commodore arrive?

ps. commodore and commode are very similar words. Coincidence? I think not.

Dearest All,

I am pleased to announce that the King of All has agreed to allow this trial of the century to take place under the leadership of the brilliant Commodore Pike.

All that reamins at this point is for the Commodore to give us his blessing.

Good sir, will you agree to hear this case?

Dearest All,

The boys at Sbenois & Sbenois Legal just forwarded to me a voice mail that they received from Commodore Mendez in which he irately informed them that at no point was Christopher Pike given the title of Commodore.

Mendez stated - and this is a direct quote - that "that little Talosian loving bastard never even deserved the title of Captain"

Then he threatened them with "evil doings".

In light of the Commodore's threat of violence towards the boys at Sbenois & Sbenois, I have directed them to immediately put up their deflector shields and to set their phasers on stun.

On a lighter note, the folks over at Sbenois Missing Persons forwarded to me a photograph of Captain Pike at his current stomping ground in Atlantic City.

pike

King of All, I do believe that it is time that we go on a road trip to have a word with the Captain.

Strawberry, we're doing all of this for you!

Dedicated to Sebonis:

"I walked through a county courthouse square,
On a park bench an old man was sitting there.
I said, "Your old courthouse is kinda run down."
He said, "Naw, it'll do for our little town."
I said, "Your old flagpole has leaned a little bit,
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it."

He said, "Have a seat," and I sat down.
"Is this the first time you've been to our little town?"
I said, "I think it is." He said, "I don't like to brag,
But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag.

"You see, we got a little hole in that flag there when
Washington took it across the Delaware.
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watching it writing Say Can You See.
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seems.

"And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag, but she waved on though.
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill.
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg,
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag.

"On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun.
She turned blood red in World War II.
She hung limp and low by the time it was through.
She was in Korea and Vietnam.
She was sent where she was by her Uncle Sam.

"She waved from our ships upon the briny foam,
And now they've about quit waving her back here at home.
In her own good land here she's been abused --
She's been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused.

"And the government for which she stands
Is scandalized throughout the land.
And she's getting threadbare and wearing thin,
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in.
'Cause she's been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more.

"So we raise her up every morning, take her
down every night.
We don't let her touch the ground and we fold
her up right.
On second thought, I do like to brag,
'Cause I'm mighty proud of the Ragged Old Flag."

JC

Kinda makes me shiver, to think that there are people so blinded by what they think is patriotism, that they would use this poem in homage to themselves, or to justify the direction our country has taken. So out of context. Pathetic, but what is to be expected from someone who can't even hold to their own word of not posting on MOL any more.

The only mainstream people who have ever dragged the flag through the mud are those politicians who have made ill-advised military commitments in pursuit of fuzzy political objectives. Vietnam was certainly an ill-advised commitment. In the case of Iraq, it is a still bit too early to start writing the history.
