Just a couple weeks ago in another post several of you mentioned buying a dehumidifier .... and while a little dampness is normal is a basement, this current moisture level is ridiculous. The walls & floors are sweating, my sump pump is working overtime. My paper is curling and my dryer is wet on the inside.

So I began my quest to remedy the problem.

Started on line with research .... ok, Kenmore, Goldstar, Hampton Bay dehumidifiers get high ratings, now where can I buy those? NO WHERE !! ZERO in stock, everywhere.

Maybe it's a seasonal item.
Maybe 1000s of others got there ahead of me.
Maybe I missed the boat -- oh wait, there's one floating in my basement.

Anyone know where I can buy a single-room dehumidifier w/o waiting 2 weeks for an online shipment?

Maybe I could buy a humidifier and reverse polarity on the motor ....

Help!

Hey marken,
Look in the MOL classifieds (the one you access through the home page) and click on Misc. For Sale. There's a dehumidifier listed among a bunch of items under MOVING SALE, posted Aug. 9th.

Was at PC Richards on 22 tonight (among many other places) in quest of a dehumidifier. They are out, but said they were expecting a shipment tomorrow around noon. I plan on being there tomorrow when thay get the shipment. If you can't make it over, I'd be happy to pick one up for you while I'm there. Email me if you interested at wendt31@aol.com.
By the way, don't try either Home DEpot, Target, Walmart, or Best Buy - all out.

Have you tried Gordon's Applliances in Madison? They usually have quite a few, though you might want to call before making the drive.

Sam's Club has them...I don't know if there is a Sam's Club near Maplewood though :-( Maybe check the website (I think they do deliver as well) or maybe take a little drive...the one in Budd Lake had a bunch of them out as of last weekend. (hmmmmmm...guess one more thing to buy before I move - thanks!)

We too went out on a quest to find a dehumidifier and after going to 2 Home Depots, Sears and a couple of other places I do not remember.... we were told that they were out in every place. As soon as they come in they are sold out that day. We were told to call before going to any of the stores to see if they have any in stock. Alas, we go back to the dampness until we find one.

I bought ours at Costco. It is a Delonghi and works well.

It was a while ago but I seem to remember seeing them there recently.

Good luck.

Be well, all.

I bought mine at Lowes in North Bergen (after trying all of the other usual places around Maplewood). Take 1-9, then Tunnell and you'll get to it. Good luck.

Nina --

Thanks for your generous offer ... but I saw your offer too late. Did PC Richards come through for you?

Others --

Thanks for your advice -- I guess I'm not alone. Even Gordon's only had a few "scratch & dent" 50-pint'ers left for $180.

I did finally order one through Buyers Edge (via PSEG) and it should arrive this afternoon. A Goldstar DH50EL 50-pint'er for $202 delivered. They only had a few left so I've got my fingers crossed.

HS / Nina: Try Home Depot on Rt 22, Eastbound --- (908)687-7907.

I was there last night and they had 3 pallets of dehumd'ers, various sizes. I bought a Maytag 65 pint'er and canceled the one ordered via Buyers Edge --- who ran out of stock just after I ordered.

This one's been running in the basement for about 12 hours and I've already emptied it once.

Marken: Congragulations on your new humidifier. I'm sure you know this, but if you have a sump in your basement, you can hook up a hose and run it into the sump. Saves a lot of emptying. If not, HD carries (may not be in stock) a pump called "L'il Hero" which you put in the removable container and hook up to a clear plastic tube which can run outside. The "L'il Hero" lives up to its name. Most plumbing supplies places also carry it.

I returned the Sears Kenmore due to my extreme dissatisfaction with its performance, design and noise and picked up the Maytag 65 pint from HD. What an excellent machine. The humidity level in my basement dropped from 85% to 50% in 2 days. Also has a built in gauge that displays the current room temp and humidity. Very quiet and well built unit. My basement has been reborn.

Thanks everyone for this info. I just got back from vacation & have been searching everywhere for a dehumidifier. We already have one running in our basement & we need another. The Kenmore model we have is very loud,so I'll tryto find the Maytag.
