With all this talk about Springfield Ave., I am getting a bit worried....the house we are buying (Friday, we hope) is not very far from Irvington Ave. Is this going to be a huge problem if we try to sell someday? How dangerous IS Irvington Ave.? We have lived a lot of places and really weren't turned off at all by it (we really like the house - so that probably helped!), are others?

Thanks for the opinions! This board has been SO helpful!

Welcome to the neighborhood.

We're not far from Irvington Avenue. I walk frequently to SO center that way and drive regularly on it. Never had or seen a problem.

Certainly it doesn't strike me as dangerous.
I get my Sunday paper at the Corner Shop and there's an Afghan restaurant that's said to be good, though I have yet to try it. I take my kids to the playground across from the carwash regularly.

A dialpidated empty storefront has just been refurbished--don't know if something is going there. I believe there is some kind of plan in SO to improve/beautify the streetscape.

There are some "quality of life" issues around the shopping plaza, but some of those seem to be improving.

I have heard of one or two incidents--a purse snatching, a fight on a bus--in the several years we've been here, both at night so normal vigilance is in order.
