School District of South Orange and Maplewood, NJ
Board Goals for the School Year 2000-2001
1. Update Board statements on the mission, goals and values guiding instruction in the School District:
a) Revisit and clarify educational beliefs and values.
b) Redefine mission around “community of learners.”
c) Define Board role as agents of change in the community.
2. Present and adopt the revised policy manual, develop the process to ensure effective implementation of new and revised policies, and begin to implement these policies.
District Goals for the School Year 2000-2001
1. Implement the unified space plan.
2. Finalize and implement a service-oriented intervention plan.
3. For Board review and adoption, develop a plan to address diversity, including both issues delineated in the current goal and other contemporary or emerging social issues that have an impact on students.
4. Develop a plan to ensure the district’s financial stability, addressing the anticipated shortfall for FY 2002 as well as long-range funding, and considering the likely contributions of local, state and external sources.
5. Continue efforts in the area of assessment:
a) Develop the capacity to make measurements and maintain student records so as to record students’ continuous improvement;
b) Improve demonstrably students’ performance on NJ tests and the SAT- 1.
The above information was released at the last Board of Education meeting, 17 July 2000. This is an exact copy of that information made available to the public at that meeting. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but nine out of ten of these goals are social goals - "agents of change"!
What the HELL is an Agent of Change?!!
Where are the 4th grade test results, BTW! Has anyone else received them? |

Define "improve demonstrably," and describe how to recognize it, and what to do if there is no such improvement.
And, improve by when?
