Well, that was interesting. Power went out where I work, in Newark, but I managed to find a relatively easy route home. I hope all of our MOLers and other neighbors, who spend their workdays in NYC, or those areas in NJ which were affected, make out okay. |

We just got our power back a few minutes ago. How is everyone else doing? |

Never lost ours. Flickered a few times. But never went out completely. |

That's also interesting, because here between Prospect and Valley, we had some power "dips", but it's been on. |

The power went off a few times here, but immediately came back on. My husband and son, however, are stuck on a train in Hoboken. |

I hitchhiked through the tunnel -- thanks to some really nice construction workers. I waited for a ferry for over an hour and then gave up and walked to the tunnel. I thought walking down 46 flights would be the bad part but I must say the crowd at the ferry was INSANE -- angry and insane. I can't believe I got home. |

I'm glad you got home, algebra2. Our power flickered off for less than a minute, a couple of times. We really got off lightly b/c we were both home today (instead of working in midtown and Brooklyn). |

The GSP was a wreck headed south from Paramus. I left at 4:20. It was like everyone was evacuating north jersey. Kinda scary. |

I had to do the 26 floor walk down. Started at 4:30, just got home 9:56. What a day! |

George -- how did you get home? The ferry sitaution was insane. I am so thankful I left there when I did and that these fabulous guys picked me up (and that I had the balls to get in the car with them.) The driver, who was headed to Clinton, was so kind, he dropped me off the 78 exit and waited until he saw my husband meet me. |

I lucked out. I jumped a ferry from Wall St to Colgate. On the ferry I saw a guy I work with. He had a car parked in NJ. I worked out a deal that if he dropped me off at my home, I would haul two of his friends north to Paramus. Seemed like a good deal to me and all four of us got home over time. |

Wow was that ferry scene nuts. I was a little disappointed in the crowd for a while. Maddness was in da house. I only took me 7 hours to walk down 1&9. I hope you all are well. |

Buzz -- I was searching for a familiar face at the ferry and saw nobody! I'm glad you got home in one piece. The scene was starting to freak me out a bit so I got out of there around 6:45 and lucked out getting a ride through the tunnel . |

I guess the idea to separate energy generation from its distribution may not be as good as it seems. The problem in NYC is that the Queens plant no longer has generation capability, so it can't start itself. Doh! Enter the new era of re-regulation. At least my purchase of an uninteruptable power supply last week was a bit of luck. |

I took the Ferry from WFC to Hoboken. I waited in line for a bus for at least 45 minutes. Went to Journal Square to catch the #1 to Newark Penn then the #70 to Maplewood. The weirdest part was that I was on the #2 train when the power went out. Smokers lit their lighters so we could find our way in the dark. I'll bet the non-smokers weren't bitching then |

I live near the Maplewood Municipal Building and we lost power at about 5 PM and it didn't come back on until the middle of the night (about 3?). Wonder why just that one section of Maplewood lost power for so much longer than everywhere else, unless there are other pockets of powerless homes that I don't know about. |

Algebra2 - I was wearing this hat, but it was filled with martinis. You're right, the ferry was freaky ~ I feel bad for the few people that were trying to keep order. |

I was home yesterday- the power flickered off & on from 4 til about 5, which is when I left the house to buy batteries & put gas in the car. I finally got thru to The Spouse, who walked down the stairs at her building & made her way to the Wall Street ferry about 4:45. She managed to reach me & let me know that she landed in Jersey City. She also told me that we would have passengers on the way home. Two women from Oklahoma City were visiting their son/nephew who lives in the Ironbound. I picked them all up, drove the Oklahomans back to the Ironbound & dropped The Spouse off for her hair appointment at Garubo's, only half an hour late. I went across the street to Carmelita's & had a nice dinner. I optimistically expected that the power would be on at home. Wrong! I spent several hours outside in my hammock, reading by flashlight. I think power came back on in the middle of the night; I vaguely remember The Spouse turning on lights, setting the alarm & powering up the bedroom A/C. All in all, it was not so painful for us. I feel bad for those who had it worse. But, glad to hear everyone got home OK. |
