We might purchase some wall-to-wall carpeting for our basement from Home Depot. When the wife and I went there the other day to price it, we noticed that the carpets were about 70-90 cents per square foot uninstalled, and that installation added about another dollar per square foot. So, for a 24x22 basement (528 square feet), we are looking at about $500 just for installation costs. Plus, I do not know if they charge extra for the installation of the padding and for taking up/throwing out the old carpeting.

I am not sure if $500 is fair. But, I would like to think that installing a carpet might cost 200-300.

Is there a carpet installer you recommend who will just install padding/carpets?

Are there any stores besides Home Depot you recommend for wall-to-wall carpeting? We used that store on Rt 22 for years (I think it was Giant Carpet), but it is no longer there.
Thanks,

Marc
