Did anyone else notice the cruisers and yellow tape in the parking lot across Parker from the church this morning? They didn't let the Y camp bus come into the lot for the a.m. pick-up. Looked like a serious crime scene investigation but that's just my speculation. Anyone have any info?

A male was discovered this morning in the Immaculate Heart of Mary parking lot. Unfortunately, he was dead. Investigations are ongoing at this time. Any info connected to this incident should be forwarded to the Maplewood Police Dept. Detective Division.

Thank You,

The Light.

He was murdered:

BY GUY STERLING
Star-Ledger Staff
An unidentified man found dead in the parking lot of a Maplewood church was the victim of a homicide, authorities said yesterday.

The man, whose body was discovered Monday morning by two people on their way to a gym, died of asphyxiation, but the manner of death is still to be determined, said Carolyn Wright, acting head of the homicide squad in the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

No visible signs of trauma...yet his wallet (or any other ID) wasn't found on the man. And his prints were not in AFIS, which means the poor man did not have a record.

"Wright would not say when the results of those tests would be available, but she cautioned it may not be anytime soon"

There's our county taxes hard at work. Perhaps one day the test results of our other unsolved murder will show up. The Essex County Prosecutor's office is a pathetic joke. If this murder was committed in our area, then the repeated incompetence of the prosecutor's office only encourages more acts like this.

Not true. The courts are funded by the Fed, I believe; it's just passed through the county budgets.

I doubt it's the prosecutor's office that's doing the autopsy and running the tests. More likely the coroner's office.

Dave: Wasn't the running (and thus the funding) of the Essex County courthouse transfered from the county to the state last year? Or was it just a proposal?

Dave - I thought Essex county gets shafted by the state because the COUNTY picks up most of the cost of the prosecutor's office. And guess which county has the greatest PO expense? In the article I read they were making this sound like a significant reason why Essex has such a large tax burden relative to other counties. Apparently in many other states the PO office is funded at the state level.
